There is a chance I will have to cancel my holiday in May.
Whilst talking to my GP I asked if he will give me a Doctors letter if we have to cancel and he told me there is a Form which the doctor fills in and signs, which I can get from the Travel agent, but as I havent used a TA where would I get this form? Perhaps there is one on-line.
Can anyone advise please?
Any help will be much appreciated.

I think your GP means the form you would have to complete from your insurance company.
My MIL broke her arm 5 weeks before we were going on a cruise. We contacted the insurance who sent a form that her GP signed.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I won't need to cancel. I am going to see a Consultant on Tuesday and a decision will be made after that.

Be aware that you may still have to inform your travel insurance of the illness as non-disclosure may invalidate your insurance even if you needed to claim for something unrelated.

When I saw the Consultant he wanted some urgent test done so I have had to cancel.
I have now received the paperwork for my cancelled hotels and flight.
The Travel Ins claim form arrived today which, as Luci advised, included the forms for my GP to sign.

Hope that all goes well with the insurance claim. Had you told them you were waiting to see a Consultant or has this occurred since you booked your holiday.
I say this because if you have not declared it then they can be quite sticky. Good luck with the claim and do get well soon.

you should be able to get this from your insurance company. as long as your gp has written the condition you are suffering from and that he does not think it is a good idea to travel in your clinical notes it should be fine. you will have to check your policy but most of them reserve the right to see these notes (with your consent) before paying out. that does not mean they actually will but you never know.

Yes the Forms for the Doctor to sign came from the Travel Insurance company along with the claim form.They have all been sent off and I am waiting to hear from them.

I have also had to cancel my holiday, my Dad is very ill. I wanted to tell you how wonderful Protur hotels have been, they have refunded ALL my deposit and its only 2 weeks to the holiday. Regarding the insurance its not worth claiming by the time I paid the docs letter fee and paid jet2 for a canc invoice paid the excess we would only get £30 !!And because of previous conditions they may not pay out. Dad bless him is giving me a full refund. Hope everything is going well for you Sue, I have been thinking about you. CBG x

Sorrry to hear your sad news cbg, i,m in a similar situation due to go away in 7 weeks but my mum is ill docs have given her a month,how they can predict a time i dont no?but not sure what to do.

Boots, I am so sorry for you. My Dad wanted to know how long he had but they wouldn't or couldn't say how long. My insurance were never going to pay out (because it was a pre-existing condition) so I made my decision 2 weeks before, as he was too poorly to leave we cancelled. My thoughts are with you and will remember you in my prayers. CBG

I phoned my insurance company today,and seems i am covered for flights and hotel,we were spending our second week in our timeshare but i didnt ask about that.At least we will def be able to have a hol later on in the year.

Boots, I am pleased your insurance company are being good, my advice to you is do your best, give your best shot and the love of others with get you thru. I am just starting to pick up the pieces now, we are booked to go to C'an Pastilla Majorca, so something nice to look forward to. I have been given great comfort from people I never expected, many members of here have helped me with kind words and the knowledge that I have been in their prayers. With regard to my claim, I received about £200 back from my hotel and flight bookings and then got £630 back from my Travel Insurance company, only losing £100 which was the excess.
I am now making a good recovery from my op.
