It would depend on the insurer. I have declared various ailments and operations for elderly parents and was told that anything relating to them wouldn't be covered.

Can anyone assist with some small queries before I phone the insurer?
I took out worldwide single trip insurance and then cancelled my trip. This was not for a reason that I could claim, just a change of mind. I therefore still have the insurance in place even though I'm not going! I have since booked a European holiday and the dates are similar but the original trip was 25/6 to 9/7 and my new trip is from 30/6 to 14/7. Does the worldwide policy cover the first part of the Europe holiday? I will then take out further cover for the extra 5 days (or if the insurer recommends extending the original - that I will need to phone them about).
The other query is regarding annual policies. I have just booked another European holiday later in the year. If it isn't feasible to extend the original policy on the first then it might be worth me taking out annual to cover these two trips. I don't intend going anywhere else until next summer. Do you take out the annual policy from date of purchasing it, or date of the first known trip (seeing as it's first time?) which would bring me up to end June next year?

Please has anyone used a policy from Insure and Go (travel insurance co uk was the site I got the quote from) It is about £60 cheaper than our M & S annual policy renewal. (M & S were great last year when a claim was made for the doctor to treat me - food poisioning) but their premiums are scary.
The Insure and Go plicy is an Annual Platinum Family with no excess and cover seems comparible to M & S just wonder what the catch is as its so much cheaper! Are they ok if you need to claim?
Any advice would be great, many thanks

They are the ones I insure with but I haven't had to claim as yet.
They are one of the recommended insurers listed on page 1 of this thread though. Their cover seems very good and you can see on the website which activities are covered, rather than having to ask for yourself or trawl through the terms.

I take out the annual insurance as well with Insure and Go - I've never had to claim either.
Hi SandC, I can't answer your first query, I think you would need to speak to the insurer. Annual insurance is normaly from the date you take it out, i.e. if you take the insurance out today, you will be covered for cancellation between now and the start of the holiday. You just need to compare prices between the 2 individual premiums and an annual one to see what works best for you.
Thanks Maria, I was so unsure about that bit cos when you buy single trip you are covered from when you take the policy out, I guess it figures that if you're buying annual the cover is the same.
Thanks Insure and Go seems a good policy
I will need to buy insurance for a short trip to Dublin in August 3-4 days.
There is a slim chance id have to cancel my plans due to mum not being well, so i need to find a good insurance policy.
In the past ive used M&S I guess most policies are the same with cover if you have to cancel due to a parent being ill?
Anyone know of a good company to use for a short break?
Thanks

If your mother has a pre-existing condition you are unlikely to find an insurance company to cover cancellation as a result of that condition.

Thanks Luci, not thought of that - thats not good, would i need to declare that when booking?
Il prob go for M&S insurance as used them before.

Ali you'd only need to declare it if you think you may need to cancel because of your mam, but then it's a vicious circle because if you declare it then they'll probably say you won't be covered by it. Best bet is to have a chat with them as, depending on the type of problems your mam has will decided whether or not they will cover you. Good luck xx
Yes, you will need to declare any pre-existing condition for yourself and anyone else on whom your travel depends. Some insurance companies will refuse to pay for something unrelated if you have not advised them.

Further to my above query, insureandgo were happy to change the dates of my policy free of charge. Quite pleased with that!
Was repatriated to the UK after an accident in Egypt last summer - and very impressed with the service received through my annual (Marcus Hearn) Travel insurance policy - the ONLY hassle was that I was flown back into London, while the car was parked in Manchester where I flew from, and had expected to fly back to. BCP kindly waived the additional parking fees (was over a week late home having been hospitalised) - but the faff of trying to get the car back to Birmingham was a bit of a nightmare since I wasn't fit to drive to collect it!!
With my annual policy due to expire in March 08 , I squeezed in a last-minute booking holiday in Feb to help me get over the stress of the last, ill-fated one and remembered to ring up the insurance co. to advise them of the accident (just in case they hadn't noted what had happened in july - and they hadn't, despite how much it must have cost them! ) . I was horrified to be hit with a massive supplement. I now had a "pre-existing condition" (gained in the july accident) and the supplement wasn't just for the one week I was travelling for (with literally days left to run on the policy on my return) but was to cover the entire 12 month period whether I wanted it for then or not. The supplement was way more than I had paid for the policy in March 2007!!
It was decidedly cheaper just to reinsure with insure and go for a one week trip, declaring the accident fully - than to use my existing policy. Daft !!!

I have looked at insure and Go.
I can't decide whether to go with Silver or Gold?
Any advice?
Mainly I want to be covered if our baggage is lost, for our children if they become ill and need treatment (well any of us really) Delayed flights.

Silver gives pretty good coverage £1500 belongings and baggage loss/damage, medical £5,000,000, cancellation £3000. Kids are on the policy free. Bear in mind £200 limit for single items and valuables.
Just have a good read through the policy but remember they are all the same in one respect - they require receipts for stuff that is lost etc. which I imagine would be a bit of a pain.
It's the medical and cancellation that I am concerned with primarily.

Hi SandC
Silver does seem to cover what we need, I have only ever used Travel Insurance once, when my daughter was ill on our Honeymoon.
The hotel called the Doctor out, and we claimed back on our insurance.
I most expensive item I will be taking will be my camera and wedding ring (which I might keep at home)

It seems as though some airlines are still trying to escape the EU rules on overbooking, delays and cancellations by hiding behind a narrow interpretation of the rules and that the Air Users Transport Council is not always as helpful as they might be (for example the AUC seems to accept that an extraordinary reason for a failure can be some unspecified mechanical failure cited by the airline without any further proof).
I am concerned that as I am attending my sons wedding this summer, in Canada, if stranded I have some support behind me and so I am thinking of taking out Which? Legal Insurance which includes travel insurance. Has anyone else here had occasion to use it?
