You must try Thailand again. First time we went we were not fussed. Went on a package and ended up in Patong Beach, too lively for us. Just got back after DIY and must say it was the best Holiday we have ever had. Goa for me no more!
Saw our first topless European near Baga river in 1984 and we were amazed. The boys in the 1 shack that was down there - Brittos I think - just stood looking open mouthed at her - as we did.
that are still very good.Alright not as good as 20 years ago or even 10 but still an excellent place to spend 4 or 5 months a year.
As for Thialand tried it twice and although very good ,at the end of the day Goa was still better for us.
Ok the prices have gone up but so have they every where else.We are speaking as long termers
and have so many friend there it would be a shame to never see them again and turn our back on 20 + years of happy times.

BTB if your other half was upset why not have quiet word. Some people just dont realise that it upsets the locals and goes against their traditional values.
I dont think that it is much of a problem in this area though. Although once we were sat in Capricorn shack talking to Monica (do you know her) about 6 or 7 years ago. It was about 9.30am when a young couple came walking along the beach from the Benaulim direction, they just stripped off went in the sea and cavorted around for awhile then just laid down on a sarong to dry off all only about 20mt from where we were sat. I nearly spilt my Kingfisher. When they were dried off they got up and dressed then came into the shack. They did,nt get the warmest of welcomes from the shack staff.
it was about 10 years ago we went to varca, can't really remember the name of the shacks exept I THINK the shack we mostly used was called seashells, loved it, done a great prawn cocktail!! it was right outside resort de goa. which apparently has been refurbished and renamed.
vaguely remember a shack called capricorn, NOT SURE THOUGH, went to several. and no i don't know monica.
not really my place to confront other holiday makers, i'll leave that to the authorities. we're not there to get stressed, which is probably likely to happen if you make waves.

i went to kerala in march, one of the reasons i wouldn't go back there, is that there are no beach shacks. as far as i am concerned, they are an integral part of the holiday!! because there wern't any we had to pay for sunbeds at a rate of between 200-300 rps per day for two. although its not a fortune, it does mount up over 2 weeks.
i wish all the beach shack owners good luck for next year, and hope the trend of demolishing them abates, and they ae able to make decent living in the future.

We felt the same Bob ,no shacks in Kerala and the beaches not to good either
In an effort to try to keep this thread from going totally offtopic( ) I have moved the kerala query to the Indian Ocean forum.

Friends were on the beach in March when the police raided shacks and started pulling them down using such force and using machettes - they had been coming to Goa for over 6 years twice a year, and the have said they will never return.
We all know there is a black side to Goa, but this year Goa has truly shown itself in its true colours.
What a shame. where has the gone.
