San Michel says "pure table water", nothing about babies - I expect FOntana says the same, but don't have one in the house

as you say, tap water here in Gozo is safe, but it is quite salty

You must watch the salt content of any water used for babies under one year. Often bottled waters are considered too salty.

Thanks, didn't think their table water was any different.

Guess they will have to boil tap water and let it cool down.

danielson81, boiling the local tap water will not get rid of the salt, only any bugs that happen to be in it. The best thing to do is get a five Ltr bottle of water and boil this as there is no or not much salt in it, if you are still not sure about the saftey of the water you could always take some sterilising tables from some were like Boots before you go.

TRH is right Danielson, the tap water is more like a court boullion and ideal for cooking, Bottle water is by far the safe bet for a baby, though adults should eventually get used to it and be ok.

Hi - have your friends considered contacting the manufacturer of their formula?? i did this before travelling to Spain a few years ago and Cow and Gate told me the name of their equivalent ready made formula in Spain, even down to the colour of the pack and where i would find it (apparently ready made formula tends to only be available in chemists in Europe rather than supermarkets). But any way i started giving it to my daughter from a couple of weeks before we travelled and took enough with me to last two days and also some powder as well just in case, i found a chemist the first afternoon and then stocked up. A bit more expensive but much easier than worrying about formula and at least i knew she would definitely have it.........having said all that though my daughter was only 5 months, by 9 months she was on regular cows milk. Its personal choice of your friends but it may be easier all round to just move her over to regular pasturised milk before you go and i imagine you will get that in most local shops and at bars, hotels etc....hope this helps and enjoy your hols....
