We went to Alcudia the last week in May and as yourself we knew about the mozzi problem before we went. We took with us some Jungle formular(without deet) and some Calypso (with deet and only £1.49) spray cans. Now we sprayed ourselves with them both about 3 times each day and me and my wife had about 6 bites each at the end of the week and my daughter had 1. Now the bites we had were very itchy and a couple were inflamed but we saw so many people with loads of huge bites that we think if we didn't have the spray we would have been bitten all over!
The calypso spray is very good and I got it from Home bargains. Also from home bargains was the Jungle formula which was £3.49 (£6 in Boots)
Just make sure if you to put it on first thing in the morning, last thing at night and also if you have a shower put in on afterwards!

Forgot to add, Most of the problem seems to be around the Bellevue area of Alcudia!

ok thanks, also when do you apply this before or after suntan lotion, thanks

In a morning we used to apply it just as we were leaving the appartment so after suncream!
After our showers it's about 7pm so no need for suncream then! It may be different in main summer though as sun may still be hot after 7pm!

Hi

I was in Alcudia last week in May and got back last friday. I was at cu-doc when I got back as all my bites were infected.

I asked the doctor what I could do as I have the bad allergic reaction and she told me it doesn't matter what creams or sprays you use, the best thing is to take vitamin b for approx 6 weeks before going and whilst you are there. I will be doing this when we next go, as I can't put up with the swelling anymore and will try anything.

Obviously the mozzi spray doesn't stop any bites from swelling. Hopefully the sprays should stop so many mozzis from biting you in the first place!

Hi,

We were in Palmanova the last week in may, most of us were bitten. I think it is because Majorca has had unusual weather this year, as we go every year at different times & it's never been like this before.

My bro in law had 14 bites all in one area in one evening!! Ouch! :cry

'Autan' a bit stinky when spraying on, but as long as you spray every inch of exposed skin it seems pretty good. Also like the Avon dry oil spray which seems to work, but seems to need topping up regularly.
Have discovered a new cure for if you actually get bitten, a clicker thing that they sell in Boots, airports etc.
They have a quartz cristal thingy going on and you zap your bite a few times for relief. Having been bitten so many times and tried and tested alot of products, I am quite impressed with my latest aquisition. Worth a try!
Good luck!

This is why I stay in the port area of Alcudia....never been bitten and never ever seen a mozzie!

Well I for one certainly wouldn't choose a holiday destination on the Mozzi situation! I'm guessing you like the Port area! :)

Was in Cala San Vicente two weeks ago and we got bitten all over, the repellant just didnt work, i was that bad, that when I got home had to see the doctor and she put me on a weeks course of anti biotics, just clearing up now. Think the mixture of hot sun one day and rain the next made it ideal breeding conditions for the mozzies

Ok, so i've ordered some of the Avon dry oil spray, got a plugin and heard that putting lavender oil on your wrists and ankles works, going 2 go and buy one of those clicker things but fingers crossed i wont need it!! :cheers

I do :tup

For me the port area is so much better than the other areas of Alcudia.

Where i'm staying isn't exactly in Alcudia as it stated in my holiday brochure but its at Continental park hotel in Playa de Muro. Don't know if its worse there than in Alcudia, but its meant to be next to the nature reserve so maybe :que

wots the mozzy situation like in alcudia at the moment has the worst passed or is it yet to come. are they mostly round the lakes areas or are they also around the hotels right on the beach. my sister is taking her baby and is worried about her being bitten. thanks

The worst is probably still to come - we go to Cala Bona & Cala Millor but every year for the return journey home you can tell exactly who's been to Alcudia standing in the check-in queues as they are covered in bites. 2006 was the worst year I'd ever seen - bites looked like boils. make sure you pack your Jungle Formula.

You can't do better than to buy Avon SSS Soft and Fresh Dry Oil Spray
