My first time in Goa was Xmas 2005 , I had previously visited Thailand a lot and was 100% sure I would never find anywhere as good.
My friend at work visited Goa a couple of times, she kept telling me how cheap it was, how good the food is , how good the beaches were etc etc etc
I started looking at Goa on here and reading trip reports etc, then I decided, to hell with it let's give it a go, we loved it from the very first night when we arrived, our first meal was at Bernard's in Baga, we stayed at the Marinha Dourada, our first beach day was spent at the Oceanic shack , I came home and booked to go the next Xmas within a week, love the place :tup

Word of mouth with me - a couple of friends had been travelling and ended up there so I then looked into it. For me = not touristy or commercial, no children, hot, cheap and somewhere a bit different.

being the Goa mod :rofl
Seriously, we had always planned to visit India, so did a lightening taster Golden Triangle tour, then a day in Mumbai and did the much needed R&R bit in Goa.
we liked it so much we went back for 5 days a few months later ( well- almost 5 days!)and didn't bother with any luggage. Hopefully I won't ever have to do that again!

Our first trip was 1999, I was told you couldn't get a holiday anywere abroad because everybody wanted away for the millenium as this was the late summer of 1998 we thought it a bit strange we couldn't book a holiday anywere, BUT wai9t a minute here's 2 weeks at the Heretage village all inclusive for a zillion pounds each, worth every penny, it was at a time when taxi drivers stood and waited expectantly, all the new sights and sounds ,all the different smells, and for us, all the different birds. we walked on thebeach from the Heretage to zeebops( about 1/2 a mile as I remember) and never saw as much as another footprint in the sand, and a magic moment for me was taking a photo of Lynn with a back drop of the beach and the palm trees with an off sea breeze blowing her hair to one side, magic moments.

Definately sounds like magic Danny.

Fiona, did you ever imagine, even being the Goa Mod, that you would get the bug too? ;)

I knew I would- but the problems are my holidays don't tie in with the peak times. :(

I was always looking for new places to go, whether it was a new resort in Turkey or new island in Greece.
We first went to Goa in November 1994, pretty much the first time it appeared in brochures as a charter flight destination.

I think it was 'sold' as an exotic destination costing not much more than a holiday to Europe.
It certainly came as a shock to a lot of people who had been used to the pavements of Benidorm and 'English Breakfasts'.

We'd had some pretty basic holidays to Turkey and Greece previously as well as a trip to the Far East so we were pretty open-minded about everything and absolutely loved it.

We first went in November 1997, and to be honest it was just becasue I wanted to try somewhere different and it was the only place in the brochure further afield that we could afford. My husband, Robin ( fiance at the time ) was a bit reluctant, but went along with it anyway, and I kept telling him it would be fine and we would have a great time.

Anyway, we arrived at Dabolim airport, it was so hot and we were wearing jeans and boots, as it had been so cold back home. The airport ( shacks ) were in complete and utter choas. we had to wait ages to get through immigration and we were both sweating buckets, Robin kept giving me the look !!!

We finally managed to get through immigration and out of the airport and obviously got accosted by everyone trying to grab our bags !! We got on the clapped out mini bus, with me still trying to convince him that everything would be fine !!! LOL

Half way to the resort the bus broke down, that was it !! He was not happy, we had to wait about an hour and a half for another bus to come and rescue us. It was now not funny, and even I was starting to panic !!

Anyway, we eventually arrived at the Ronil Beach, and after being allocated our rooms we walked through the the back block past the pool, where a very friendly English man eating a bowl of ice cream in the pool said " Welcome to Paradise " To which Robin, you must be having a laugh ! ""

ANyway, after a shower and a change of clothes and a nice cool Kingfisher, things were looking up. and after the firat week, he was already talking about coming back. We had the best hoiliday ever and met some wonderful people, both locals and visitors and have been back every other year since. And are now looking forward to our 6th visit in January. Although we are now accompanied by our 2 children. It will be our daughters first time, she will be 18 months, and our sons third time, he will be 5. Over the years we have taken numerous friends with us, and my Mum, all of which have also had a fab time, and most of then have been back for more !! :cheers

We were going to book our usual Christmas trip in 1999 but everyone had bumped the prices up for the Millennium and the Dominican Republic was well over priced, so we sat outside Thomas Cook (or JMC as I think it briefly was at the time) and had a quick look at the brochure.
Goa seemed much cheaper, and we found an all inclusive, so booked that.
The people at the beach shack we used (as the food in the hotel was a bit ropey!) suggested we should try the Holiday Inn next time as it was much nicer, and now 2008 here we go again for our 9th trip.
Thought I was going to an island off India though, didn't realise it was mainland! Still can't quite explain to people what the attraction of the place is. Just can't quite put my finger on it, except to explain that you have to go there to fully appreciate it.

I hate winter, so like to get away for some sun. Did Mexico and the Dom Republic a few times, tried Cuba, but got fed up with the all-inclusive buffet meals, the give a tip to get served at the bar.
Enjoyed Mauritius but it rains a lot, and after being couped up in the hotel, for three days due to a cyclone, the last trip said thats it.
I'd always wanted to visit India, my Hubby wasn't too keen, then my Daughter said, try Goa that's India for beginners :D
So my love affair with Goa, started five years ago, now we spend most of our holidays there :)

We had been to various warm places in the winter including Christmas time but they were getting more expensive by the year, especially at Christmas. We saw Goa on a holiday programme 10 years ago and liked the look of it and it was cheaper overall than the Canaries at Christmas and also a lot warmer so we went for it and have been every year since. Christmas this year will be our 10th visit. We have taken other people with us at various times and recommended it to many who have also loved it. Although we have our moans about various things now like a lot of other people, I can't see us not going in the years to come unless it changes drastically. As soon as we set foot on Goan land we feel at home.

I'd always wanted to go to India, finding myself single I decided why not go alone. Not quite brave enough to tour India alone I decided I'd probably be safer on a package and found myself browsing the Inspiration East brochure, that was about 16 years ago, I chose the Ronil in Baga.

Flew out on British Caledonian, with a bad case of flu, arrived at Dabolim and were ushered into what looked like a cattle shed before we were allowed go to the main building. I just wanted to lay down and sleep, the flu being made worse by the heat. Finally made it to the coach and as we made our way north to Baga my spirits came to life as the scenery whizzed by to the reps fascinating stories of what to expect in Goa.

Wow what a beautiful place an assault on the senses; the vibrant colours the smells, the people, the food, the weather. Everyone around the pool would chat, the most common feeling from all was; 'This is the first place I've ever been where I've switched off and relaxed immediately'.

Within 3 days, having recovered from the flu, I knew I'd return, one couple was already looking for property to buy! I've been back once or twice a year since and am still in love with Goa.

I was a teenager when i first went to Goa. My dads friend from work told him about Goa, this was in the early/mid 90's , so my dad thought, why not, its cheap enough.

My mother wasnt too keen though, she thought India wasnt exactly a tourist place, so we'd get ill, and she was adament she wasnt taking her toddler and teenaged daughter to India to get ill.

Anyway, her attitude soon changed, fell in love with the place.

We booked through teletextholidays , and got a 14nights in Jan for 300pounds per person.

We flew with an airline called Britannia, and we stayed at hotel Kamat ( i think this was the first hotel we stayed at)
