New to this site, so 'hello'
Me and my boyfriend are heading out to Albufeira in a couple of weeks, with neither of us having been to anywhere is Portugal before, so rather excited! We are staying very close to 'the Strip' Oura end, as we wanted quite a late-nights type holiday. One of the things I'm worried about however, is that I am a vegetarian (inc. no fish) and am still very keen to eat as authentically 'portugese' as possible whilst out there. Are there any specific places people know of that would cater for such? or certain dishes to look out for? or will I be stuck with the same-old food I'd get back here?
And if anyone also has any tips/warnings for young/new clubbers out there, it would be much appreciated
Anna.
Like everywhere that isnt Hindu, all traditional foods contain meat or fish Anna, sadly it's a fact of life.
There is a vegetarian restaurant just off the Strip called the Eurasian (I think), head north from the Oura beach, until you get to the first crossroads, turn left and you should see Liberto's Disco; go to the left of Liberto's and the restaurant is just a few metres down on the left hand side.
nb - pretty much all cultural delicacies will have a few veggie ones among them, even if they're not the best known or popular. Especially from a greek perspective, people are always surprised im a veggie, but actually 'village' food as i's often referred to contains very little meat, although some fish, simply because it never used to be affordable to the average cypriot. people are often surprised to be presented with an entirely veggie meze with ease!
but I do know it's not easy unless you know where to look! I think I will be scouring all the menus at every meal time

Just to start your meal off in an authentic fashion, try Caldo Verde for your first course. It's a traditional Portuguese soup made from green cabbage and potato. There you go, gal, - only two more courses to go !!
Sagres is right Caldo Verde, Tomato and vegetable soups are all widely available, and normally delicious.
I will stop "carping" on now...
Eurasia is a nice vegetarian restaurant situated where algarveaddick says, its next door to the Arieas do Pao (Bakery) on Rua Almeida Garrat more or less facing Mustangs & Tom & Jerries Bars.
