Hey everyone..

Would just like to make my comments as a worker 6 nights a week in the 24 hours square, Benalmadena!

Trouble is infrequent, especially on week nights and out of season. However on the weekend especially Saturday night the spanish lads come in their hoardes and descend on the square primarily for Disco Kiu.

Now, in all the time i have been working in the square i can safely say that on the whole and if you put things into perspective it is a safe place to go out drinking. But, as with a large number of bars within a close proximity and alcohol fuelled people its a good mix for trouble. BUT, having said this the majority of the trouble is with the Spanish lads that unfortunately have been misquoted earlier as only going out to pick up the girls!

Guy gets his ear bitten off inside Kiu - Attacker and victim both spanish
Guy gets stabbed outside Kiu staggers round the corner and sadly dies on the pavement - Attacker Morrocan Victim Spanish
Guy gets stabbed outside Kebab shop - Attacker and victim both spanish
20 youths throw bottles and anything they can find across the square at other drinkers - Attackers are spanish
Guy kicks lad unconscious outside Kiu for not giving him a cigarette - Attacker Spanish, victim English.

Now, obviously this doesnt happen every weekend, but most times the trouble seems to happen between 4.30 and 7am as people are leaving or milling around outside in the square. The police however are usually only visible around 1am for a little while and if all is quiet they dissappear for pretty much the rest of the night.

Only two nights ago, there was a big fight inside Mangos, and i mean BIG! people absolutely covered in blood girls, lads etc etc.. but they were all very drunk and i dont think felt a thing, but am sure the next morning they did. The police however do not do anything unless they see something with their own eyes. No cctv in the bars or clubs, or not that is working, and they wont give you their name or a crime reference number or anything like that, its just not the way they do things. However, if you are seen involved in a fight, whether you are the aggrieved or the attacker you better brace yourself.

I have seen numerous occasions of small fights, i.e not on the scale as mentioned above, and the police rush across batons drawn and literally batter the hell out of anyone involved, oh yes, thats the act first ask questions later.. then once it has calmed down, if you cant speak spanish you are pretty much doomed!! Have seen it time and time again, and to a certain degree i do agree with the swift action of the police when they are there, you only have to see them draw the batons and the spanish lads crap themselves and run like hell lol.. so it is effective, and crime as a whole is very low in this country, most of the violent crime is domestic related!

So, in summary, i wouldnt worry too much at all about the costa del crime programme, as a previous poster said, they film weeks and weeks of footage and play them back over a few episodes. Just think about your local town centre, the pubs and clubs there and the police sirens wailing all friday and saturday night. Just remember if you are going to get drunk, learn spanish first and grab your kebab and head home before 5am!

Trouble with the Spanish lads.? why's that so then .?

Could it be that this little piece of a British poo hole and the people who think this area is for the Brits and the Spanish should pee off to the Marina to "their " area, are partly to blame.?

How can you justify charging the Spanish lads as much as 40 euros entrance fee in an effort to keep them out, when the Brits can pay 5 euros.?

This is Spain, this is their country, not yours or mine.

How would you feel if you were asked to pay an extortionate fee to enter a nightclub in the UK and the person behind you pays a pittance.?
That alone is a recipe for trouble......

You only have yourselves to blame if the Spanish lads are outside, frustrated and excluded.

The main reason that the spanish are charged such a high entrance fee is that they do not spend any money once inside the venue. It has been tradition for years to buy their alcohol from the supermarkets and "botella" drink.. i.e. drink by their cars etc, on the beach, wherever they can "especially in the summer", and then off to the clubs they go where they mostly drink water.
The "giddies" however just drink and drink and spend their money on the expensive drinks inside the clubs.

Whatever the reason, it should never justify the use of violence.

Violence occurs for many reasons and any type of violence is unacceptable.

IMO: It's a rip off Brit ghetto and people who drink water or water after alcohol don't usually behave like some of the morons who stagger outside and who have been fleeced for the drinks that they feel compelled to get down their necks, once inside.

You should take a good look at the cause and not the symptoms ;)

Hmmm unfortunately they do behave like that as i pointed out in my original post.

Just because they drink water it doesnt mean they are not already alcohol or drug fuelled.. many drink water because they are on drugs and they need it.. dont understand it myself, not being into drugs n all that :tup

But i dont want this to go :offtop as they reason for my writing my original post was obvious just to highlight some truths and facts about what i have seen and experienced, whether i agree with charges on the doors, behavioural attitudes, drinking, drug taking etc is irrelevant.

Now.. time for some :sun2

Hasta luego.
