Egypt is a fantastic, friendly, clean place. We were there in May with a 9 month old in our party and there were no problems what so ever, you can buy most things from the supermarkets out there nappies, wipes etc. Yes a lot of people do come down with tummy upsets but as long as you are extra careful around the baby and only give it sealed jars (also available) you should be fine. However do not do the Cairo trip with the baby, we took our 4 year old and that was difficult, a baby would be a nightmare, it is not pushchair friendly, it is hot, busy, and very unsettling to say the least.
don't do it. Too hot. Stay in the UK with a kid. Not worth the risk!
not recommend Cairo or Luxor with a toddler or baby anywhere between March and October - FAR too hot (in Feb it was in mid thirties in Luxor 31 in Cairo and virtually no shade or breeze - can't contemplate how hot it must feel later in the year). I don't have a problem with children in Egypt and have been numerous times with my now young teenagers without problems - but even at ten they were finding the heat and very long transfers difficult - becoming easily fractious and overheated despite hats, plenty of bottles of water etc..............
Personally I wouldn't recommend the historical sites to anyone at all in the summer months , perhaps at other times of the year you should consider one of you staying at the coast with the little one if the rest of the family are going on the "cultural tour" - after all, a baby is not going to get any benefit from the excursion.
You don't say where you are planning on staying on the coast - assuming it's Sharm, with children I would suggest the trip by air - 6 hours by road each way is a big hassle with children (it's not a particularly interesting road trip to help occupy them)!

too hot, dont do it. its not fair on the kid. you dont believe how hot it is. youll either be stuck in the hotel room the whole time because your child cant take the heat or your taking the kid to hospital bacause of sun burn
Please reconsider the month you want to travel The sea will still be warm enough, and winter time is high season for visitors as well.

I would wait till they are a bit older, the Pyramids aren't going anywhere they have been there for millions of years.
We are thinking of going to Egypt next year in November with our toddlers, 2 and 4. I have some questions:
- is it a good place generally for toddlers
- any recommendations on the resorts
- would the weather be ok for them
Any help would be great, thanks!
We used them constantly when abroad as they take up no room and the hotel's/self catering places always helped out by letting us use their microwaves
Other thing I found handy for travelling was an advent split container which took enough formaula for 3 bottles, which you measure into the container and then when it's needed you just pour the powder into the boiling water straight from the container without messing about with huge tins. They do them in Mothercare.
Hope this helps with the packing.
Also has anybody been to the Holiday Village? What did you think of the hotel, facilities and food ect...
Please take dyoralite from uk chemist, this puts the salt back into your body when you sweat, thus easing the crams should you get them {hope not).us brits never use much salt and thats one of the reasons we get cramps. Keep A\c to a minimum in rooms as its reconditioned.
Lots of people on here have been to the HV, have a great holiday and your little one
I agree with all the advice Michelle has given about.
I am sure you have done so already, but I would make sure the baby has had all the jabs they need in this country as a newborn (DTP) I dont suppose he or she will be able to have Hep A and Typhoid like adults do, but best to make sure the triple is up to date as they do have tetanus over there and babys and the elderly are far more vunerable to things than adults.
We also kept the aircon off at night, which was easy as we went in early April. If it's not too hot I would keep it off at night.
I am sure you will have a lovely holiday.

However in both places he was out and about around the pools most of the time.
It just meant we only had to worry about keeping his hat on and some cream on his arms and lower legs.
Hi I am going to sharm in may with a 19month old who has one beaker of full fat milk in the morning. Does anybody know if they sell full fat milk in the shops in sharm??
Hi yes they sell full fat fresh cows milk.
Gemstar are you going to Holiday Village? If so we have just been with 2 children under 3 and i used to take my sons beaker to the sports bar in the hotel and they happily filled it with fresh whole milk for me every night (THey use if for cocktails you see)
Hi Nana 26 yes we are going to the holiday village. What did you think of the resort, did your youngsters enjoy themselves? I can't wait to go but a little bit nervous it the weather will be too warm and tummy bugs from reviews I have read on here. Thanks for your reply
Hi Gemstar no I havent stayed at HV as my children are alot older now - youngest is nearly 16. It is very hot out there at the moment. In Nabq you do get a nice breeze but you do have to be very careful. They should be fine as long as you use your common sense and find plenty of shade. Outside the hotel there are lots of shops and you have two malls with Mc Donalds and Burgerking.
