Egypt is a fantastic, friendly, clean place. We were there in May with a 9 month old in our party and there were no problems what so ever, you can buy most things from the supermarkets out there nappies, wipes etc. Yes a lot of people do come down with tummy upsets but as long as you are extra careful around the baby and only give it sealed jars (also available) you should be fine. However do not do the Cairo trip with the baby, we took our 4 year old and that was difficult, a baby would be a nightmare, it is not pushchair friendly, it is hot, busy, and very unsettling to say the least.

Do Egypt in a nice hotel in Sharm, do not do the Pyramids with your baby.

don't do it. Too hot. Stay in the UK with a kid. Not worth the risk!

Certainly would not recommend Cairo or Luxor with a toddler or baby anywhere between March and October - FAR too hot (in Feb it was in mid thirties in Luxor 31 in Cairo and virtually no shade or breeze - can't contemplate how hot it must feel later in the year). I don't have a problem with children in Egypt and have been numerous times with my now young teenagers without problems - but even at ten they were finding the heat and very long transfers difficult - becoming easily fractious and overheated despite hats, plenty of bottles of water etc..............

Personally I wouldn't recommend the historical sites to anyone at all in the summer months , perhaps at other times of the year you should consider one of you staying at the coast with the little one if the rest of the family are going on the "cultural tour" - after all, a baby is not going to get any benefit from the excursion.
You don't say where you are planning on staying on the coast - assuming it's Sharm, with children I would suggest the trip by air - 6 hours by road each way is a big hassle with children (it's not a particularly interesting road trip to help occupy them)!

too hot, dont do it. its not fair on the kid. you dont believe how hot it is. youll either be stuck in the hotel room the whole time because your child cant take the heat or your taking the kid to hospital bacause of sun burn

i must confess i am against young kiddies going especially through the months of April through to December. There is no where outside to keep babies cool, even under the shade its stifling. If you want to go i recommend the winter months Dec-feb, basically because tummy upsets you will rarely get in the cooler months as the air conditioning isnt on, so you will be used to the warm temps. It will be the temps of our British summer, so baby will be used to it. So many kids go in the summer and are very ill through dehydration I agree about the sites and buggies having done them. Temps when we went this June/july reached 130 degrees, Luxor was 150, and i felt ill walking around.
Please reconsider the month you want to travel :tup The sea will still be warm enough, and winter time is high season for visitors as well.

I certainly wouldn't drag round Cairo and Luxor with a 10 month old baby, in the summer even if I wanted to show a 7 and 10 year old the sights. Nov to Feb would be your best bet if you really want to do this. Less chance of upset stomachs as well.
I would wait till they are a bit older, the Pyramids aren't going anywhere they have been there for millions of years.

Hi there

We are thinking of going to Egypt next year in November with our toddlers, 2 and 4. I have some questions:
- is it a good place generally for toddlers
- any recommendations on the resorts
- would the weather be ok for them

Any help would be great, thanks!

For anyone travelling anywhere with babies/toddlers and still needing to sterilise bottles, the best thing I bought for my little one was Lindam microwave pouches for sterilising, they are plastic bags that take 2 bottles in each one and can be used up to 15 times per bag and they come in a pack of 3. I got mine from Blooming Marvellous.
We used them constantly when abroad as they take up no room and the hotel's/self catering places always helped out by letting us use their microwaves
Other thing I found handy for travelling was an advent split container which took enough formaula for 3 bottles, which you measure into the container and then when it's needed you just pour the powder into the boiling water straight from the container without messing about with huge tins. They do them in Mothercare.
Hope this helps with the packing.

I have booked for a two week holiday in May this year to the holiday Village Red Sea. Will be travelling with my 19 month old, so has anybody travelled to Egypt with a toddler before? Any tips or advise? I have been advised to not have ice in drinks and avoid salads and raw food incase they have come into contact with tap water, and to also take a dry hand wash.

Also has anybody been to the Holiday Village? What did you think of the hotel, facilities and food ect...

My advice is to keep your toddler covered, mainly because the temperatures when we went in May were well into the middle 90's and you burn. I advise to take sunblock that changes colour so they wont burn, a hat and sun glasses and t shirt. Get a good parasol. Drink plenty of sprite, this helps kill bacteria in the gut. Drinking overly to much of water gives you the runs. Salads you can eat providing the hotel has the water filter in place, that way it isnt tap water.

Please take dyoralite from uk chemist, this puts the salt back into your body when you sweat, thus easing the crams should you get them {hope not).us brits never use much salt and thats one of the reasons we get cramps. Keep A\c to a minimum in rooms as its reconditioned.

Lots of people on here have been to the HV, have a great holiday and your little one :cheers

I think that of all the hotels you ahve picked this is probably the best one to take a young baby to, as it seems to have high standards and be really geare up for Brits.

I agree with all the advice Michelle has given about.

I am sure you have done so already, but I would make sure the baby has had all the jabs they need in this country as a newborn (DTP) I dont suppose he or she will be able to have Hep A and Typhoid like adults do, but best to make sure the triple is up to date as they do have tetanus over there and babys and the elderly are far more vunerable to things than adults.

We also kept the aircon off at night, which was easy as we went in early April. If it's not too hot I would keep it off at night.

I am sure you will have a lovely holiday.

Keep your eyes open for an all in one UV protection swimsuit. It covers just about everything except the head, hands and feet! My grandson came back from Cuba and Mexico whiter than he went!
However in both places he was out and about around the pools most of the time.
It just meant we only had to worry about keeping his hat on and some cream on his arms and lower legs.

Hi Nana 26 yes we are going to the holiday village. What did you think of the resort, did your youngsters enjoy themselves? I can't wait to go but a little bit nervous it the weather will be too warm and tummy bugs from reviews I have read on here. Thanks for your reply

Hi Gemstar no I havent stayed at HV as my children are alot older now - youngest is nearly 16. It is very hot out there at the moment. In Nabq you do get a nice breeze but you do have to be very careful. They should be fine as long as you use your common sense and find plenty of shade. Outside the hotel there are lots of shops and you have two malls with Mc Donalds and Burgerking.
Im off next Saturday and cant wait.
Enjoy.
