I seem to remember, many years ago!, we went away with my son, now 24, when he was seven months and I had to give up feeding him just before, and only fed him solids but took some sterilising tablets and container sterilise bottles and dummys, and took formula to make up a night feed, took a kettle and did it with bottled water - that was Gran Canaria. He survived!

We got a travelling sterilising kit (bags and tablets) from Mothercare. It works with ordinary tapwater and you just hang it on the door handle.

We used bottled water boiled in the kettle to make up the food.

No probs at all, in fact when the water went off, the hotel went out of their way to make sure we had enough bottled water to get us through.

Gosh things have progressed since we took the kids as babies!

That sounds typical of the Egyptian hospitality, they really do go out of their way to help, nothing is too much trouble... oh, cant wait to get back there, nine months to go!

I'm going in March and my baby won't be on solids, she's bottle fed. Takiing electric steriliser (obviously). She is too young for any jabs that we are having - typhoid and hep A. Worried about pool cleanliness etc. (going to Coral Sea Resort). Any advice or tips from others who have taken small babes out there?

Hi Tiny K

We took my son to the Grand Azure when he was 10 months old and he never suffered any tummy upsets what so ever. We would boil the bottled water before making up his milk and juice. he spent lots of time in the pool and ate pretty much what we ate and was totally fine.

We took our daughter to Mexico when she was 7 months old too and again totally fine although I was still feeding her myself then.

have a great trip

Hi Ransom,

Never heard of malaria being an issue in Sinai!!

Hi Ranson,

Please do not worry you shall be fine. We have been to Egypt the last two summers, the first time was to Sharm at the end of May and my sone was then nearly 11 month, and then last July we went to Hurghada and he was 2. We have never had any problems what so ever with the heat the food or mozzies and are hoping to go back this year.

Our son would infact eat everything we did and last year had an egg every morning for breakfast and was totally fine. We took some coridal with us especially when he was a baby and boiled the water to make it up so he always had plenty to drink.

Our daughter is nearly 7 and when she was a baby we took her to Mexico, Dominican Republic and Margarita. We just ground up the malaria tablets into her milk or food and she was fine.

If you have any other queries or concerns please feel free to ask.

Meant to say that there is no malaria in sharm and we never got bitten once. Got covered in bites when in Greece and France though!

Hi All

I am thinking of returning to beautiful Egypt in Nov this year. I have been to Egypt several times, but this time is a bit different as I am a new mummy and will be travelling with my 5 month old baby Olivia.

I always stay in Luxor either at the Sheraton or Sonesta, but this year I think that I will be going to Sharm instead as my holiday will be more hotel based than sightseeing for obvious reasons.

Has anyone travelled with a baby and what was your experiences good or bad???

Is Sham the best place to take a little one??

All advice welcomed

Hi Sarah,

First of all congratulations on becomming a mummy its great isnt it, the only problem they grow up so quick mine are now 9 1/2 year old boy and a 6 year old girl dont know where the time has gone.
I only took ours to egypt this year so cant really be of much help but i imagine it would be great. Their were quite a few babies in our hotel in Hurghada and they all seemed to be happy there. The hotel provided the best cots i have ever seen and with the standard of hotels in Egypt i would imagine that would be the case for most hotels.
I hope you have a great holiday and enjoy many happy moments with Olivia

love Denise

We stayed in the Grand Resort, the hotel was lovely and we cant fault it in any way the food was very good plenty of choice, it has 3 pools plus 2 childrens pools and some good entertainment at night, their is also a beach over the road which you can use, though olivia may be a bit to young for the 2 water slides there  .
Outside the hotel their are a few bars and you could walk down the roads for quite a while without being hassled which was nice, not really a site seing place but our two are interested in swimming and snorkeling which is why we choose there infact it was so good we are returning next year.
You could go on trips but not sure which would be good for a young baby.
Entertainment wise they have a mini disco at about 8 at night then they do shows different one each night then repeated the next week, we saw nubian act, african show, magic show, acrobatic show which was very good and some guy that walked on broken glass and beds of nails, they wernt earth trembeling shows but ok for a nice relaxing break.
All the british are on the ground floor so you would have no problem with a buggy saying that there are lifts so any room would be easy and also they are very large, hope this information is of help if you want to know anything else then just ask and i will try and help

Hi
We are travelling in three weeks to Egypt, staying at the Conrad with a 3.5 year old and a 12month old...
The 12 mth old is on solids, he eats what we eat. I have kept him on formula milk cos of this holiday. Taking a travel kettle, so i will be able to boil bottled water to make his milk - he has a couple a day. Can also use it for his cereal at breakfast. Taking some baby food jars(just in case) , some plain biscuits and taking lots of nappies / wipes etc.
In the day he will be in the UV suits and mostly in the shade, then at night he will be in shorts and t-shrts. Taking his blanket with him, and a cot sheet.
I am a bit "panicky" about travelling with a little one to Egypt - but as my hubby reminds me - they do have babies in Egypt...

We will have a good time and i will relax once we get there!!

I've seen people take a child's 'pop-up' tent to put small children/babies in on the beach so they have a nice bit of shade...

Hi,
We are travelling overseas for the first time with our 12mth old twins and although they are very good with food in general I am not sure that we will find lots for them to eat in our hotel. Can anyone please tell me how they got on with 12 mth old babies?

Thank you very much - sorry if this subject has been covered in the past, I did a quick search but couldn't find anything.

You will find bottled food in the supermarkets and nappies and such like although fairly expensive compared to the UK.

If on solid foods then fish can be quite soft, but it is rare you will get potatoes, its normally chips and rice with everything. Whether or not they could liquidise it maybe difficult if you require that. There were a lot of youngsters i saw, so i wouldnt think you would have a problem.
