Are booze and fags your thing?

Most things can be bought cheaper over the Internet these days if you know where to look. I find that most major airports all sell the same things at similar prices now. Unless you want something in particular what's the point?

If you're after something like a MacBook the Dixons Duty Free store would be a good place as it's VAT free.

Booze and fags are my thing, especially fags, although I now have to be carefull bringing them back as I got stopped from Dominican last year and had ALL of my fags confiscated :(

Is Dixons at the airport any cheaper than the high street? Off to Crete tomorrow and son isn't sure whether he might want to buy Guitar Hero for his Nintendo DS. He was thinking of waiting until we get back home and see how much spends he has left, but if it's a good price when we get to Dixons Duty Free he might just make up his mind!

It's a bit cheaper for larger items, but you won't save much for games. It's worth noting the price before you go to compare, but don't expect much of a difference.

You'd be better off using the web to order games as it's often cheaper and you don't feel so "under pressure" to buy.

How's everybody finding their journey times to the airport with the roadworks that are currently in place? Has there been a significant impact on the time taken or is disruption minimal at the moment?

Is it worth getting my taxi to pick us up an hour early for the outbound leg?

Thanks

Wayneo,

No major problems that I've seen. Last time I was there (2 weeks ago) everything was fine. It was quite early morning though. I was talking to the taxi driver who normally takes us at the weekend (4 weeks on friday!) and he wasn't worried about things.

We arranged to be picked up in T2 departures.

Gail

Just be aware that there are warnings about picking up in thses area's and the airport have the authority to use cctv with Auto Number plate recognition to issue penalty charge notice. £2 is not a lot to be safe for both your self and other users.

Hi we did not arrange this ourselves, we were told by our transfer company to go to arrivals and wait.

Travelling through T2 at Christmas so don't know what will happen by then.

Actually, it is. It's a complete rip-off!
What other business charges you just for the privelege of picking up its customers?
The only reason for doing this is that they lost their nice little earner (where due to slow baggage handling everyone was guaranteed to exceed the maximum free parking time) because these days we all have mobile phones and can call our lifts in when we are actually stood there waiting.

Just a quick question. Is there any vegetarian food at any of the places in T1. Flying to Varadero at 0930 on 5th September but will be arriving at 0630 after driving through the night from Scotland so will need something substantial. Cheers Steve.

Yes, there is a bar after security. Can't remember what it's called, but we went through T2 a couple of weeks ago and it was definitely up and running. It's near WHSmith.
T2 has changed a bit since we were there last year. After check-in we had to go upstairs to security, and then back down again into what used to be the landside (pre-security) concourse. Then through what used to be the old security area (nothing much happens there now, you just walk through) and into the main airside concourse. We had planned on enrolling for IRIS, but the office was closed (lunchtime) and never opened all the time we were waiting to board

It depends what you call "a restaurant"... There's a Burger King and the hideously overpriced Food Village.
We went to Starbucks and had some nice hot paninis and lovely frappucinos, same as high-street price.
