it is 10lira, so pretty much £5, for an effes down bar street way. Im just back today and we managed on £600 for 2 adults SC for a week but that wasnt eating out everyday. We went to Rhodes last year and spent £800 SC for 2 weeks. I found Marmaris much more expensive than Rhodes, personally its the drinks etc which are very expensive.

To Vonny and any other members...sad to hear that you wont be back to Turkey but I am afraid that you have not really seen the ''true Turkey'' ..have you been to other places in Turkey or just Marmaris..??

There are still many undiscovered places that are far cheaper than Marmaris or the typical turkish resorts....

Caretta ive just been to Marmaris 4 times & yes its true there is more to Turkey than Marmaris, just at the moment its put me off ever going back, maybe when winter kicks in i will probably want to go back. I will look into other parts off Turkey if any1 has any suggestions. Cheers for all your comments.

I would recommend Dalyan and Fethiye. Look for smaller resorts, still plenty of bars and restaurants but the feel is much more friendly, much less hassle, cheaper prices etc.

Thank you sarong i just felt this year was so much more expensive, more hassle & they was always out to try and rip you off. This is just my opinion so dont all have a go at me

I must admit we feel all Turkeyed out, but thats because everything felt too familiar. Time to go somewhere we haven't been before, which will probably be a campsite in France or Italy. I would certainly recommend Dalyan, for some reason it seems to be overlooked for the busier/bigger resorts, yet its just 25 mins from the airport with no dodgy mountain roads!

Previously I have found Marmaris to be very well priced. As there are literally thousands of restaurants the competion to get your business is fierce and there are usually some great meal deals. I have found that smaller resorts eg Trunc and Icmeler with not quite as much competition are generally slightly more expensive.

There are I think 2 main problems, the exchange rate is terrible at the moment.

The other is that Turkey is perceived to be a cheap holiday destination, Certainly about 4/years ago it was very cheap. However prices have went up due to higher taxation and general inflation. Prices are now similar to UK prices. I think if you have not been to Turkey you may not complain too much especially if you have not been swayed to thinking Turkey is a cheap destination

lets be honest about £1.80/£2.00 is not that bad, a meal of free bread, starter and main course is around £10/£12, although I appreciate that if you have youngsters it will soon mount up

Hi Vonny....Here are a few suggestions..to check out on the Mediterranean side of Turkey..

Dalyan - This river town in the shadow of dramatic rock tombs cut into a sheer cliff is near the ruins of ancient Caunos and wide Iztuzu Beach, both reached by riverboat.

Köycegiz - Peaceful and quiet, this traditional town sits on the shore of large, placid Köycegiz Lake connected to the Mediterranean by the reedy Dalyan River. Hot springs are nearby.

Göcek - Small, pristine and charming, this is primarily a nice port of call for yachters

Fethiye - Built on the ruins of an ancient city, Fethiye has age-old stone sarcophagi in its streets and gardens, rock-hewn tombs in a cliff above the town, an active yacht harbor, a vast bay dotted with islands, and all tourist services. Also Kaya Koyu.

Ölüdeniz- Over the mountains south of Fethiye, this is perhaps Turkey's most beautiful beach, and also its most popular.

Patara - St. Nicholas ("Santa Claus") was born here, but visitors now come for the spacious, very long, very uncrowded 18km sandy beach as well as the sand-covered ruins of St Nick's Roman town.

Kas -A lazy pace governs this nice little resort town far enough from the airports to preserve a lot of its charm.

Üçagiz/Kale - Close to Kas, Üçagiz is a tiny village on a cove with a sunken Roman city and an island (Kekova) with a Byzantine one.

Demre/Myra - Dramatic cliff tombs loom above a huge Roman theater, and vegetables grow everywhere in the rich alluvial soil. This is where St Nicholas did his good works, and where he is buried.

Finike - Once called Phoenicus, Finike is now a sleepy fishing town with a long pebble beach nearby.

Cirali / Olimpos Roman ruins scattered in a pine forest, a 4 km secluded beach, fertile fields, and the Chimaera, the world's oldest and best-known natural "eternal flame".

Phaselis - Once a thriving port shipping timber and rose oil, Phaselis is now a beatiful park backing its three perfect little bays good for a swim.

Vonny41 - I did mention in an earlier post that we were surprised at how we went through money this year in Marmaris.

We stayed 3 weeks and had a FAB time but were astonished at what we were spending daily on drinks alone. I think the cost of eating out in Marmaris is great and excellent value. Drinks on the other hand, especially soft drinks take a big chunk out the budget.

Myself and my daughter plus 2 grandchildren 9 and 13 were spending at least £50 each day on soft drinks by the pool. In addition my husband and son-in-law were roughly spending the same amount for beers.

I have been to Turkey many times and if someone had said I would be spending over £100 on drinks daily I would never have believed it. Thats not counting what we spent at night. We are very moderate drinkers and would have a few alcoholic drinks in the evening. As an example, at our bar an Archers would be 10 turkish lira plus 3.5 for a mixer.

Still we will return to Turkey, enjoyed every minute of our stay.

I agree about soft drinks. We were lucky, staying in apartments that looked onto the pool, our apartment was just steps away so we always went inside for a drink, or sat on our terrace.

Thank you all for your comments. I agree it was the soft drinks n my voddy & cokes that cost the most, we did find meal deals that were excellent value.

Sarong - like you we stayed in apartments. The intention was to stock up on soft drinks and then escape from the sun and have some drinks in the apartment. However, the thought of going upstairs in that heat seemed too much of an effort so most of the time we enjoyed just having our drinks at the pool or in the shade at the pool bar.

Also we liked to give our turkish hosts some "custom" hence the reason for spending a fortune on drinks.

If you bought drinks in the supermarket for your apartment that was fine but the owner didnt like people bringing their own drinks to the pool, which I can understand. We never did but did see a couple of families being ticked off.

me and hubby goin on monday for 2 weeks to marmaris B & B in Goldstone Hotel (1st time)- have budjeted £100.00 day - as drinks seem so expensive ( i usually drink voddy or cocktails) does anyone know price of bottle of wine?

Hi jojo, unfortunatley wine is quite expensive. I usually drink wine here but over there I don't bother. I usually stick to cocktails, local brandy or efes. We do get bottles of champagne sometimes but tbh I don't think its real champagne and is approx £18 a bottle.

Local vodka's are probably your best bet, or cocktails, just make sure they put enough alcohol in! You can get quite a lot of bogof offers.

You will have a fab time.... we will be following you the wee after! 12 more sleeps!

My wife refused to pay the high price for coke which was dearer than Efes so our drinks bill for 8 pints of Efes for me and 6 pints for the wife was costing us 24.5YTL a night (£11.55pence) at Sugars Buffalo Bar in Icmeler due to the price of Efes being 1.75YTL for a pint or bottle.

A bottle of wine was costing me between 24ytl & 29ytl in bars or restaurants but only 9ytl to 16ytl in supermarkets but cos i drink wine with soda this was adding quite a bit to the bill, hence i went onto voddy & cokes.
