Hi All,
Arrived back at Stansted at 10pm last night from 2 weeks staying in Olu Deniz. To be honest, I'm very disappointed with with the resort. After reading other peoples description of Olu Deniz on here, I took it to be a family resort, with no 'boom boom' How wrong that was. From sunrise through to the next sunrise, all we heard coming out of the bars and restaurants was 'boom boom' music. There were several restaurants we liked the look of, but they were next door to bars playing loud music, so did not try some of them. As an example, we went for an evening meal at Sultan Pepper and sat at the back of the restaurant, as far away as possible to the Karioki bar next door. We found it impossible to hold a conversation during our meal, due to the very loud party atmosphere coming from next door. We do like to try different places to eat during our holiday, however, we ate most of our evening meals at the Olive Grove, as this only had backgroung music. Bella Gusto wasn't too bad, but again the surrounding bars had loud music playing, but not as bad as others, the worse being Sultan Pepper. Most of the food we did eat in the restaurants was good, it's just the experience of eating your meal in a night club atmosphere that we didn't like. How anyone can eat a meal, be it breakfast, (yes, there was loud music at breakfast time as well!) lunch, or dinner, with boom boom music playing is beyond me.
Prices - We found Olu Deniz to be more expensive for food and drink than it's neighbour Hisaronu, and a lot more expensive than Calis Beach. Large Effes - 2.5 to 5.00 YTL Soft Drinks - 4.00 YTL Local Spirits i.e. G&T averaged at 10.00 YTL Food - Main Course ranged between 18.00 to 25.00 YTL. An evening meal for 4 people - cheap bottle of wine, starter and main course averaged 130.00 YTL. Lunch averaged 60.00 YTL for 4 people. In Calis Beach main courses were between 12.00 - 15.00 YTL per person.
Trips - Having read the comments from others on here, we decided to book our trips with ************* A jeep safari and a boat trip. We were picked up from our hotel in a huge 8/10 seater Land Rover. We got about a 1/4 of the way up the hill towards Hisaronu when the drive shaft went, leaving us rolling backwards down a steep hill with only the crash barriers to stop us. After finally coming to a halt, the 2 drivers called for another Land Rover, which arrived 10 mins later. This one had the front near side smashed in, (whilst waiting for our replacement land Rover, one of the drivers was boasting about have 2 accidents the previous day!) with my wife's eat moving around as it was not attached to the jeep. At this point our confidence in the drivers was becoming low. So, we set off again to meet 2 other jeeps at a garage in Ovacik. and to actually put some fuel in as the gauge (one of the few things that did work on this replacement jeep) was below the red. At one point, I though we were back in the UK as the driver seemed to want to drive on the left, hitting the kerb in the process and with oncoming cars flashing him to move over. We arrived at the garage, and promptly decided to end our trip there and then.
When we booked these trips we were overcharged by 80.00 YTL. When we challenged this, he gave us 60.00 back. We didn't bother with the boat trip for obvious reasons. So, not only did they try to rip us off, they endangered our and other peoples lives as well. Obviously we complained to them - although they were not interested in our comments. We did notice the next day that the price of the jeep safari had gone down from 20.00 to 11.00 YTL and the boat trip from 15.00 reduced to 3.00 YTL. I wonder why this was, maybe other complaints...?
We`stayed in Hisaronu 8 years ago, and went to the Blue Lagoon back then. We went back to the lagoon towards the end of this holiday, and was very impressed with the changes made. Went to Sugar beach a couple of times, very nice nice sandy beach with shallow water, ideal for kids. Went to Kaya Koy, good half day trip on the dolmus. Liked the bar on the beach front, in front of Buzz Bar, with the deckchairs and beanbags. We sat there some afternoons watching the paragliders come in, and in the evenings for a couple of drinks after dinner.
We stayed at the Imparator Hotel. Will do a hotel report in that section.
Just one note of caution - If your cases are overweight on your return journey, you will be charged £7.95 per kilo over your allowance. It cost us £75 extra Must have been all the shoes my wife bought (6 for £20)

Just like to add that the holiday wasn't all bad! We made the most of a bad experience, although we we will not be returning to Olu Deniz, we would like to go back and stay in Hisaronu, or maybe even Calis Beach, but will visit the Blue Lagoon again as we enjoyed our two visits there.
I'm really suprised I found all the music coming out of bars etc far worse in Hisoranu than it was in Olu D must have got lucky. We tend to avoid Kareoke like the plague.
Must admit I was staying FB so we tended to go to bars for drinks/coffees etc rather than restaurants. Mainly the buzz bar and the tequila bar.
Ive never thought of Hisoranu as a quieter resort than Olu.
Wouldn't go anywhere near a jeep safari myself, glad you voted with your feet.
I know what you mean about the prices just like here really, but I cant bring myself to go to Gumbet or Marmaris where I understand from what I am told on here it's a lot cheaper.
As for the airport rip-off, well what can I add that hasn't already been posted a million times before.
Glad that on balance you seemed to have a good holiday though.

Although like the poster above i wouldnt consider Hisaronu as quieter. It always seems far more bright and loud to me.
Yes, have to agree, Olu Deniz has become more louder than when we last visited. I think it is because Olu is very compact. Most of the hotels seem to be on top of one another, and the bars and restaurants are all close together, all competing against one another.
When you go up the hill towards Hisaronu, you can see how compact it is. I think they have crammed as much as they can into the resort, to the point of bursting. I think you get more hassle in Olu than you do in Hisaronu.
Yes, Hisaronu is more louder, but only (it seems) after 10/11 PM. It's not as compact as Olu Deniz, which gives you more of a sense of freedom if you see what I mean.
We had a couple of nice evening meals in Hisaronu, nice and relaxed, and without having to hear someone murder some song (kareoke)
We enjoyed our visit to the area, and would go back, but not to Olu Deniz.
To put Olu Deniz in a nut shell, I would say it's becoming a very British resort - Take away the fake designer tee shirts ect.. and you could be in any resort in Europe. - The Blue Lagoon aside as that is, as you say, very beautiful.
Hi guys just reading your comments, the wife and I discovered Olu Deniz about 6 years ago we have visited about 4 times now and it has changed for the worse the beach used to be beautiful not many beds no bars just really chilled out place to visit. We went back in August really shocked at the changes more Karaoke bars, it really catering for the british tourist. So sad to say that this will be our last visit to Olu Deniz but not Turkey though. I suppose it depends what you want out of a holiday alot of people like the shops and bars thats what makes their holiday, not for me guys it must be sign of getting old. The only thing I will miss about Olu Deniz is we have met some great local people and made some friends there.

That's exactly why we went to Olu Deniz, and if we wanted a bit more of a livelier time, we could head off to Hisaronu. Instead, we had karaoke, club/disco music, and shops selling the same old tat in yer face. It would not surprise me if the club 18/30 brigade invade Olu Deniz next year.
