Hi,
I'm thinking of going over to Paris for the New year, where I am staying is in the La defense area and the hotel is near the metro so normally would be pretty easy to get to all the tourist places, but does anyone know how the metro runs at that time of the year, will it be a skeleton service or business as normal?

The rail system in France runs throughout Christmas and New Year. You might like to contact the French Government Tourist Office at Piccadilly in London, and perhaps discuss this over the phone with them or by email. Alternatively the Paris Tourist Office - bureau de tourisme de Paris - might be able to answer your question by email.
