gerona airport has a roof top terrace where i have spent many a stress free time waiting for my flight
A couple of lovely smoking areas at Mahon too. Good old Spanish.
Just a general enquiry. I don't suppose anybody knows what the price of ciggarettes is in Germany? I only ask because my friend went there the other week and asked me if i wanted any ciggarettes bought back, he said that they are really cheap over there. Naturally, I took advantage of this and said yes. When he came back he handed me a carton of 200 ciggarettes and told me they wernt as cheap as he thought they were and asked me for £38! I have the feeling that i may be getting a little ripped off here so any help with this would be appreciated.
Debbie
That sounds about right for 200 cigarettes from an EU country. The days of 'duty free' within europe is long gone. you have to pay duty on them if travelling to the UK from EU airports so they aren't that cheap anymore.

Can't tell you the price of cigs in Germany but it is usually 38 euros about £25 in Spain/Portugal. Maybe that is where your friend is getting confused but I am not an expert. If it is £38 I know where my holidays wont be taken if that is just the price of cigs.
I am surprised Dublin hasn't reopened the smoking area off the bar in the airport. Most pubs have made indoor "outside" smoking areas, so I was hoping the airport would have done too, but not yet they haven't
Thanks for the replys. I understand that it is not as cheap as it used to be but i still think £38 is a bit expensive. When i go away i usually get mine from the airport. Its quite cheap. i think last time i went away it was £24 at Gatwick airport for 200 and about 22 euros at the airport in Jamaica. Thats where i got the feeling i was being ripped off because i couldnt understand why he would pay that price for them if he could buy them cheaper when at the UK airport.
Cigs in Germany are on average €4 per packet, some a bit less, so going on the figure of €4 for a packet, which is €40 per 200 carton.
On the exchange rate that works out 40.00 EUR = 31.0620 GBP
If the cigs are 3.85 euros per packet, that works out for a 200 carton at 38.500 EUR = 29.8556 GBP
For the cigs to work out at £38, they would cost..... 38.00 GBP = 49.0135 EUR
That's making them €4.90 per packet
Maybe you got ripped off ....nice friend ?

Your mate wouldn't have been able to buy the cigs at a UK airport, if travelling to Germany. You can only buy cigs if travelling outside the EU. I think £38 is not a bad price. In the UK you would pay in excess of £50, so at least you saved some money.!
Just been to Munich - carton of 200 ranges from 36 to 40 euros depending on brand.
Anyone know if you can smoke in Monastir airport in Tunisia.

I booked my flights before my sis informed me that east mids had a smoking area. You can be assured that from now on all my flights will be from this airport. Why do all uk airports not cater for us smokers even if this is an outside area.
Here's another airport. Durham Tees Valley is a very small airport and the coffee lounge/Bar are both near the outside patio area where you can smoke
Hi, is there a smoking area, airside, at Manchester and Gatwick?
NO, to Gatwick, only outside main terminals. Tonyt
No to Manchester too ! Only outside main terminal in designated areas. Denny
to be honest when i know i can not smoke, it does not have a bad effect on me, maybe be cause i can not do anything about it, but once your in an area you can smoke you automaticaly reach for your ciggys
Littlelegs, How true - I thought I would really struggle on my recent flight to Cancun. 10.5 hr flight, plus 3 hrs at Manchester plus an hour or so at Cancun, but it relly didn't bother me at all. When you CAN'T smoke, you just don't think about it. - Just need someone to tell me 24hrs a day and then I would find it easy to give up
