Poppet - Hope that you are okay and your grandson xx
I'm going alone as well but it's not only money that I may have with me but my tissues and wipes etc so need something to carry stuff in. Not sure whats safer now, a 'bumbag' or my over the shoulder (and head!) bag that has been coming to Goa with me for years.
Thanks everyone we are both ok, dog is still abit unnerved keeps barking a the slightest sound but that i can live with, many story have since come out about people being burgled and bags snatched just be very aware, and shut patio doors and windows, they can get up 2 storeys with just a bamboo pole!!!
it has reminded me now to be more vigilant and always have a bag over my head and shoulder, rather than just on wrist or shoulder.
my friend was dragged along the road 2 years ago and badly hurt because she had her bag round her neck Moles kent, so maybe keep as little as poss of value on you and better to just let go? its a horrible situation and Rams girlfriend had her bag snatched last week and was kicked in the ribs and has bruises on her face and arms... its quite shocking .... and especially frightening reading about your break in poppetjay... how scary is that!! thank goodness you are ok... I know this happens all over the world but i agree its so sad that its happening here with such virulence as its always been so safe over the years. have you not got the grills on your windows poppetjay or did they manage to get through them somehow too?

They'd better look out then if they get in MY room with a bamboo pole - they might just find it shoved somewhere painful
Are you talking 'Burglar Kebab' Fizzy?
It does get very dark and has fewer pedestrians along by Cactus SP at night, so this area may be a bit iffy. It shouldn't be though and until now I wouldn't have given it a thought.
Again though, are the police contacted? Are any thieves caught? what about with your break-in Pjay, did they come?
It is a worry that after years of feeling safe and relaxed whilst on holiday in Goa it should come to this.
Glad you're both ok poppet. I always walk with my husband on the outside closest to the road and keep my bag on whichever shoulder is away from the road and I'm always very aware as I've read about muggings from passing bikes previously. Not so easy if you're alone though and I didn't even consider the possibility of them breaking into your room!
I must admit that when I am out with my other half I make sure my bag is hanging across my body and facing away from the road. We also do not walk too far away from the hotel especially if where we are heading is very dark.
We heard of quite a lot of crime last year, some the year before. It's quite frightening re Ram's girlfriend - they are well known in Candolim! Police were no use and not really interested last year when it happened to me. An Irish lady was in the Police Station the same time as me and they wouldn't even let her report it officially!
Unfortunately with the state of the police, you would probably get done for nicking their bike. However, if you had it in full view of your favourite bar and restaurant, I am sure they would stand up for you, or even accommodate you hiding the bike!
Comments pls.
Perhaps someone can set up a dummy holding a nice flash bag that's chained to a sturdy post so when they try it they get one hell of a shock as the bag does come q2uite as easily as they expect!!!!!!!! (Only put it up in early evening as it gets dark...
After being asked for rps 1000 from the station officer for a crime number, i reported the incident to the British Consulant and was put in contact with a police inspector who immediately took the officer name and my case is being deal with, in the paper today it gives a number to report any bribery by any public service person, police ,fire , government offical after all this time they now only realise whats happening.
They have always known Poppetjay...they just choose to turn a blind eye because they are all at it to some degree or other. I think some of the recent bad press over their, alleged, (gotta be careful here) cover ups has meant that particularly where tourists are concerned they need to be more open/honest. The locals won't complain but the tourists sure will do. Well done to you for reporting it to the consulate (even though the piece of paper containing the officers name was probably in the bin before you hung up your phone). Sorry if that sound cynical but they just pay us "lip service".

we got aproached by a man giving us a scratch card, (too good to be true i hear you ask) well yes as we won the top prize, you got it a,hoilday in goa for 2, whats the catch?
everything, you get taken to a new building complex selling time share!!!!, suplied with free drinks, snaks, but your not told that , until they show you the very very posh appartment!!!! so do be careful the only thing you get free is a taxi ride, unless of course you buy a timeshare, they are not nice if you dont..
I don't give time share touts the time of day. I tell them the second word is "off" and they can choose their own first word. Usually sends them packing.
i will try to remeber that.... wont fall for it again....
They emigrated to Australia..and were out in Goa for a few months. Got the scratch card/first prize etc etc... Normally people are only there for the two weeks and then off home, they however took up the 'free holiday' as they were bumming about and spent a week in luxury accommodation!
My way to get rid of time share touts is when they give colleen and me a scratch card is to say if i DONT win the star prize i will go with you you should see the look slan(cheers)
