Who starts all this garbage ?
Incidentally, by February no one from Britain will be able to afford to travel abroad annyway. The £ will be on a par currency wise with a Christmas tree chocolate coin.If the weather turns warm you can expect a meltdown.
Cheers for that Dave, that's really brightened my day
The beaches are really quiet at the moment no hawkers, no anyone no massage girls/men and the police are tracking all activies saw one policeman pop out from nowhere and confiscate some bags belonging to a hawker the hawker was no where to be seen. Insome ways its nice not having to keep being disturbed by them in others its what goa is all about.
Certainly doesn't sound as if there will be much happening in Goa this christmas then!!
Spaldy, have you never heard of the Dunkirk Spirit? Where there is a Brit - you will have a good time. Have a great holiday.
i cant imagine that all this will really happen im sure common sense will prevail. if all shacks close at 11 and clubs and so on close what will all the tourists do??? go home??? i dont think so some how... there will be thousands of people on baga beach new year and thats where ile be going then on to the hill top for a goan rave!!! if they close the shacks i will take my own fireworks and ale! might even take a ghetto blaster for some music ha ha... seriously tho, they cany cancel christmas and new year because of terrorist threats!
I totally agree Ryan i will believe it when I see it
God forbid there was a terrorist attack here they would know exactly when and where to strike as all the places will soon be closed according to rumours so they better make it soon
Well there is sandbags on the beach in case of a terrorist attack!! This is true as we spoke to some friends who are in calangute at the moment....How relaxing!!
The rumours were rife last Thursday that all the shacks would be shut from 6pm or 9pm for 25 days starting from 23 December, also Titos would be closed. People working in the shacks told tourists this and are very worried and upset about it.
Then there was an article in Fridays Navhind Times denying this.
There are absolutely no beach sellers, police all over the place, road blocks up ie some days no buses or taxis allowed down to the shack entrances at Baga Beach due to police road blocks.
Thankyou Gemma, you answered the question of my original post. Anyway we have decided to cancel our Goa holiday as we have children to think about, our travel agent was very helpfull and understanding, we have not lost any money and are now going to Cambodia instead...which has made my husband happy as this is where he wanted to go anyway because he had heard good reports about it.
Hi, me and the missus got home on Friday and what Gemma says is more or less right enough, we were told that the anjuna market was to close till after New Year, then on the Wednesday night our taxi driver VJ asked why we did not go to Anjuna market that day!! It ended up open, not much customers turned up tho!! Hopoefully you will put in a report for Cambodia Spaldy I fancy holidaying there some time.
Its sad that its come to this but... i'm glad they are doing something.
I too think that it is a shame that this has to be the case, no doubt the Hotel gala evenings will be busy because of it
Yes no problem bobbsy i will put a report in about Cambodia and let you know, checked it out on the net looks really nice, going to a resort called "sihanoukville" so will let you know,my husband knows some people who have been they say it is gorgeous.
Have spoken with a few Shack owners and they confirm that they have been told to close at 11PM. Have also witnessed first hand the road blocks and the closure of Anjuna and the Sat night markets. They seemed to have moved a lot of the stalls to Calangute to do their business.
The beaches are deserted in comparison with last year, and with the 40% loss of tourism the prices WILL be hiked up. Again, this was confirmed to me by staff at the Sportsmans Bar (Candolim). The only saving grace for the locals is that there are more Russians arriving daily, and they dont barter and will pay top-whack for everything.
My own personal experience of this was when my wife had a ring made up for her forthcoming birthday. We went to the Jewellers next to The Shooters Pub in Calangute and spoke with Saj (who we know very well) and asked if he could make up a Black diamond (1 & 1/2 carat) with 3 white diamonds running down each side of the diamond on the shoulders, on a 9 carat white gold ring. He did so and was so impressed with it he made another up for his shop.
A Russian couple came in the very next day and bought this ring for approx £1000 ........... we paid £170. He said they just asked for the price and paid it.
To be honest, its probably worth somewhere around the £900 mark over here, and I'll know for sure when a friend of my wife's does an evaluation on it soon.
Sorry to go off-topic slightly. Anyhows ..... if you're booked to go over the festive period and are feeling let down by the news of closures .... then i'll buy your tickets off you if you want. Believe me, I'd rather be there than over here !!!!!!!!!!!!!
the ring sounds beautiful, i had a black diamond ring bough for me for my 40th 2 years ago, its got 3 stones on white gold,
there all the rage over here now.
