Silver Angel - What a nightmare but please take heart!

If you go flight only and get a cab from the airport to the taxi stand at Calangute, you can then get a local taxi driver to drive you around the area you want to stay. He can knock on doors for you and see how much and what the place is like. We did this in November and ended up with great accommodation, close to the beach.

The season is not busy so there will lots of rooms available and you can take your choice and do a bit of haggling. You may have to be firm with the taxi driver because he's likely to take you somewhere where he can get a bit of "commission". Just explain that you'll look after him if he finds you somewhere good and inexpensive.

I know it's nice to have everything organised in advance but I'm equally sure you will find something that is likely to be as good, if not better, than what you had booked. After all, if you don't like it, you don't stay there.

I hope things work out for you and you have a great time!

Hi Silver Angel, did you you want to fly from Gatwick or Manchester. What a nightmare you are having. I am so sorry for you.

hello Squigs

need to fly from Gatwick - had one hell of a day

was going on thursday and we always look forward so much to our Goa holiday to be with our Goan friends, am thinking about staying in a guest house and get separate flights, but my mind is in such a turmoil at the moment I can't think straight.
Just don't know where to start with this flippin holiday (or rather lack of it) now :(

as long as you get the flight you will be fine. As soon as you get there you will start to unwind. I arrived in Goa the last time totally stressed so I know what I'm talking about :D You already have some great suggestions here. It will just be a case of deciding upon the best option for accomodation and I'll bet you end up with a brilliant holiday and spending less than you would have. And you can even see the accomodation before you pay anything for it. :tup

Monarch holidays have the Alor Grand Candolim for 359 departing Gatwick on the 15th for 14 nights. Transers are not included.

jewel in the crown have 14 nights flying from gatwick on the 15th at the shruti guest house in calangute 5mins from the beach reduced from 655 to 420 per person

Does it have to be Candolim? The guest house I stayed in is on Calangute/Candolim border near Nirvana Restaurant (Fiona knows where this is) and a short distance to the beach. I think it could suit someone with a disability too. If you have your flight sorted, this could be an option (if they have vacancies). PM me if interested. Fizz

If the Magnum is any use on the thomas cook website, i know its not on the beach road but its close
16th from Gatwick
18th from Manchester

La alegria de goa, Summerville (not sure of location) & donna alcina are also available on same dates

They are not cheap deals but it is worth considering

Just want to give you all an update - still no luck and I have been looking all last evening and all day today. Have phoned numerous travel agents off teletext and there is nothing available in Candolim for the dates I want only Victor Exotica on full board.
Can have Neelams the Grand on saturday for 2 weeks but it is 20 min walk to the beach. Found a guesthouse in Candolim and they are fully booked until 24th jan and I can't get the flights for that date. It seems if the accommodation is available the flights aren't and vice versa :(

So it looks like I will be on the case again all day tomorrow - my bum is numb from sitting at the computer :rofl

Will give another update tomorrow, and if anyone can come up with anything in Candolim near the beach and shops suitable for a disabled person please let me know - am grateful for any help.

Thankyou everyone for taking the time to post on here and looking up hols for me, I really appreciate this - you are all so kind (not like a certain travel agent whose initials are FC).

Regards Silver Angel :)
