We're arriving 9am Sat 14 March and leaving 9pm at night.

Plan to do the guiness factory tour, bus tour and some shopping down grafton street

If you are doing the guinness factory I would advise pre-booking your tickets via the internet because you then get straight in and avoid all the long queues (and they were really long when we went), especially if you are only staying for a short time.

I've prebooked tickets for the Guinness Tour. Now looking for some recommendations for a nice lunch. Don't want anything fancy but a nice pub or bar where we could get a nice leisurely lunch near the factory before jumping on the bus tour.

Also is it best just to walk to the factory or would the tour bus be a better idea as we'd be buying a ticket anyway?

I am going to Dublin for the day on the 7th of July and I have heard that it's very expensive, please can any one advise me how much beer, wine e.t.c is in an average bar and also how much should Iexpect to pay for a nice lunch?
Just one more question, :) are the high street shops much more expensive than in England.

Thanks
Sue :)

We found drinks to be on a par with uk money, but we were a bit shocked at the cost of main courses in some places as we were looking at menus with charges of 20€ for a main course. I was a bit perplexed at how much we seemed to spend for 2 of us for one day when that would last us a weeks holiday with our 2 children.

Thanks for your reply Groovee, I am going wiuthout my family, just with a few friends, I will take my debit card incase I decide to buy anything in the shops but was hoping to budget about £100 for the dayfor drinks, food and transport,do you think that will be enough or will I need more than that?

Thanks Sue :)

Hi Sue ... is that £100 per person or per group ? If per person, it should be plenty for food, drinks and transport. If shopping with your debit card, watch out for any bank fees or charges you might incur, unless perhaps you are a Nationwide Flex Account (or similar) user.

To reduce transport costs, it may be worth looking at unlimited travel passes, such as the Dublin Rambler ticket. A one day pass is €6 and is valid on all Dublin Bus services including the Airlink coach to/from the airport, which is normally €10 return.

More info HERE.

Weblinks on page 1 may provide some suggestions for things to do or places to see.

Hi David, £100 would be just for me, not the group. I do have a Nationwide flex account so I shouldn't incur any charges if I use that for shopping.

Thanks also for the info about about the Rambler ticket.

Sue :)
p.s I have tried to use this link but it doesn't appear to be working

The link is working for me. Perhaps you need to try with a different browser, eg Firefox or Opera.

Hi Sue ... it still works for me, but if you are still having problems with the link, just Google 'Dublin Bus Rambler Ticket'. You can buy online or at the airport.

On the subject of beer prices (very close to my heart), you will be paying more than the UK in my experience.

Last time I was in Dublin it was 4.5euros a pint. There were a couple of places just shy of 4euros (north of the river) but the general range was 4.20euros-5euros, which even on a favourable 1.15 to the £ is still £3.65 and £4.34 respectively.

To my astonishment I read a trip report where they were charged 6euros (£5.21) for a pint in the Temple Bar pub. If that is true, and I have no reason to doubt that, I think that is a good indicator as to why Dublin had this expensive reputation.

About the Rambler ticket. I'll be going on a gig trip to Dublin, just for a day, on the 6th of November.

We'll be arriving at Dublin airport (assuming the flight is on time!) at 15.05 and heading straight to the O2 Arena.

We'll be leaving the O2 Arena at approx 11pm I would imagine and going straight back to the airport. I understand there's an aircoach which stops right out side the O2, is that right?? Would there be likely to be one we could catch between 11pm and midnight?

Would we be better to buy a Rambler ticket, or just go for singles each way in case we can't catch a coach before midnight and the Rambler or return ticket expires as we've entered a new day?

Thanks! :)

Pippy ... the Rambler ticket is €6 for unlimited travel. If you buy single tickets, it will be €6 each way. It would be at least worth trying the Rambler ticket in the hope that you make the last connection that night. If not, then you can buy another single. As for timetables and services, it might be best checking the Dublin Bus or 02 websites.

Dublin Bus do not operate that late. Last Airport bus from the City Centre, not the O2, is 22.45, and thats before you even consider getting from the O2 to the CIty Centre and vice versa.

Aircoach operates 24 hours, and stops directly outside the O2 and costs 8 euro single and 14 euro return. Rambler would not be valid on here though. It uses the port tunnel as journey time is pretty quick.

Info on aircoach.ie and click the link at the top advertising the Greystones service.

That'll be the one we'll use then as I'll have no energy for racing back to the bus stop after jumping about for two hours! :rofl

When you come out of the airport, where would the Aircoach stop be? Mind you, we could just catch a normal bus. Is the Aircoach the only service which would take us all the way to the O2?

Would we buy the Aircoach tickets from the driver?

Thanks! :tup
