Hi all
Just looking for your opinion and ideas on this
Mrs Kilty and I are off in a fortnight to Egypt for 2 weeks, flying with easyJet from Glasgow to Gatwick and then First Choice from Gatwick to Luxor.
There is an orphanage in Luxor (Sunshine International) that always desperately needs children's clothing, pens, pencils etc and we want to take some badly needed items with us.
Do you think the airlines would allow us to increase slightly our allowance to enable us to take a load of these items to the orphanage ?
Does anybody know how to approach the 2 airlines with this type of request ? any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Graham
Hi, I regularly watch the Airline programmes & a couple of weeks ago there was a lady flying out with syringes, bandages etc. She was given a letter by the airline to explain that she was allowed extra luggage allowance. I suggest you phone the airline, explain the situation, and see how the land lies. If your request is refused, ask to speak to someone higher up the ladder. If they agree make sure you get a letter confirming this. Also make sure you get the full name and telephone extension no. of the person you spoke to. I hope you're lucky.
Its still worth a go re the letter though.
Thanks Fiona & Helen, I am going to phone them tomorrow and see what happens.
hope you are successful. It would have been First Choice and Monarch who stopped the extra allowance to Goa by the way and I note that it is First Choice you would be flying with Good luck!
Good luck with your quest & keep us informed please.
Good luck, I hope the airline uses some compassion. I would be surprised if they do though because First Choice (Thomonfly) is now under Tui ownership and little things like this tend not to happen. They have a strict baggage policy and tend not to bend the rules. If it was First Choice as was, you may have had a chance with the backing of a charity but I can't see it now. You never know though, you can only ask. It might be worth giving them an incentive. Tell them you will be releasing a press statement via the charty and you would be more than happy to suggest the airline helped out by allowing you to take the baggage for charity. You'd have to word it carefully or the unscrupulous will probably end up trying it on and using it as an excuse to try and get more luggage (one reason they tend to have a blanket policy on allowances, even in these circumstances). Airlines love possitive PR, especially in these times so worth a go if you're struggling.
Let us know how you get on,
Darren
Just a quick update, we are off tomorrow and despite numerous calls and emails etc neither easyJet or Thomson would budge on their allowance so we have cutback on what we are taking for our personal use and are still intending to take as much as we can for the orphinage.

What a shame Graham. I'm afraid its just another sign of the times.
sorry to hear that Graham. Unfortunately I am not surprised.
