We've just booked a cheapy little week for December 6th in The Sun Tropical PB.
We don't like to go away with a daily budget but as this isn't our main holiday we're quite happy to give the kids their breakfast in the apartment (we don't eat that early ourselves). For lunch, we'll either share a pizza or get some filled rolls or something, so our biggest outlay will be our main meal which we'll have in a restaurant. I'm happy to order a bottle of wine and while OH enjoys Magners he equally enjoys the local Tropical beer, so we don't really have to spend a fortune.
I'm thinking about taking the kid's drink flasks and filling them up before we go out. Every time we go on holiday we order the boys a drink each only for them to be either spilt over or left. I don't know whether this would go down too well with the restaurant owners though :think

The prices of most things seemed higher this year. 200 cigs which cost 13.50e were 16.50e this year. A large beer was between 2e and 3.50e depending where you went, it pays to shop around a bit if you can. I was half board and only went out for a meal once and that was to the Jumbo chinese, I found that the prices had risen slightly but it was still good value.

The only advise I can give is to shop around for everything.

Its quite funny really, we were looking around shop to shop at cigarette prices and saw a brand that was 20 euros, we then both said oh they're expensive , they were only 18.50 down the road. i mean 20 euros equates to £1.77 a packet which is what they probably cost in the uk twenty years ago!!! you are right that they have gone up slightly they used to be about a quarter of uk prices now they are about a third of uk prices but part of this is the exchange rate , we got 1.13 this year but 2 years ago we got 1.4
Talking about expensive i went to fill up with fuel and it was .85 a ltr i'm sure it was the same last year , so about 80p a ltr equiv. just filled up today 1.03 a ltr in uk , didn't see any oil rigs near the coastline in playa blanca?? and they fill up the petrol for you aswell !! top service and prices we could only dream of :que

yes but it's swings and roundabouts as they charge 2 euros for a game of pool whereas in the pub near me it's only 50p!!! :rofl
Seriously I'd say drinks were about the same as uk but you then have the option of seeing most prices of beer before you go in. Usually there's a board outside offering a beer for 1.5 euros etc! Breakfasts are not bad, full English for around 3 euros! Cigs obviously much cheaper!
One thing I have noticed is that nearly all of the Spanish yougsters smoke! Maybe thats because they are so cheap!
It's kind of like our government saying, 'Feraris are bad for your right big toe' Now it could be true but because Feraris are so expensive I'll never have a bad toe from driving one! :) BUT If Feraris were the same price as Ford Fiestas, there would be a lot more of us with bad toes!!! lol

I got back on Thursday from PDC (fabulous holiday!!) and I was pleasantly surprised at the prices.

Swing cigarettes (they come in normal and light versions) were very similar to mayfair over here, perfectly smokeable, 8 euros for 200!!

We stocked the fridge with some very acceptable 4% strength beer, 19 cents a can :tup

On our complex everything was 1.50 euros - coke, juice, small beer, small cider - not too bad we thought!

Great full English breakfast for 3.50 euros.

We had budgeted for 50 euros per person per day for everything and came back with a fair bit despite eating out well every night and some lunch times too. Out of that budget we did an expensive (but brilliant) boat trip and the fire mountains trip.

I can't say what the prices are like in Costa Teguise, but I do know that there are plenty of places in PDC and Puerto Calero where you will get a steak dinner for less that 20€, and I mean fillet steak. If you choose to eat sirloin or rump steak you will find those meals considerably less, probably around 10€ a meal!

A lot of places do a menus of the day at reasonable prices, I had a very good meal consisting of Garlic Bread, Sirloin Steak and Ice Cream for 8.5 Euros in PB. Other choices for the same price included Chicken, Fish and Pork chops.

It pays to shop around.

Shorty - hi again! Just had a deja vu moment (can't spell by the way) Before i saw your comments I had been looking at staying at Oceana Club, but gotta check with another family if they fancy that one.......then I have just seen your comments on the other part of this website and you mentioned would def go back here, but also I noticed you're from near Leeds, which I am aswell!!! Don't want to become a stalker :que but i think that's a bit of a spooky coincidence!! Anyway, sorry for babbling on.....was it Oceana where the drinks were fairly cheap? And how far is it from the main strip in PDC?

Just back after my 6th visit to Lanzarote but my first in 4 years. Some things seem to have gone up whereas others seemed to have stayed the same, taking the exchange rate into account. The supermarkets if anything seemed slightly cheaper than they used to be but I think this may be a reflection of the sharp increases in the UK supermarkets over the past year or so rather than an indication of price fluctuations in Lanzarote. Beer and wine is very cheap in the supermarkets but as with everything it pays to shop around. The price differences in various supermarkets is quite amazing, the cheapest being Hiper Dino (by far) but even in there you can get stung for one or two items that you can get much cheaper elsewhere.

Breakfast is the value meal of the day, we found a decent one for 3.60, including OJ and coffee. You can till get a beer for 1.50 but normally only up until around 9pm. The food in most of the restaurants has increased slightly but you will get stung if you like a beer or 3 with your meal. For me the most disappointing part of it was the ridiculous cost of the soft drinks. I saw plenty of places charging 3 euros and above for coke, it's no joke when you've got a family.

On the whole, little increases here and there combined with the poor exchange rate mean that your holiday will cost you a fair bit more than it did 3 or 4 years ago, but isn't that the same everywhere? As some sort of rough guide, we usually eat out more or less every night for a fortnight but this time around it was more like 5 nights over the same period, staying in and cooking for the remainder. By the end of the two weeks we'd spent a similar ammount to what we used to spend when we ate out out every night. All I can say is, shop around...and around...and around.
