At the bottom end of Baga beach there is Oceanic and Shining Star both very good. If you walk up from those shacks towards calangute and away from the jet skis there's a shack called Shack by the bay, it's a little quieter there, and although we found them to be a few rupees dearer it was worth it.
Oceanic every time for me. Excellent food and great hospitality.
Bobbys and Xaviers both very good, lovely staff and food

angie xx
the shining star is a very good shack ask for tara great lad who will look after you,
I think the Shining Star is the shack thats moved this year? Rather than being to the right of the Oceanic (if looking out towards the sea) its now a few shacks up to the left.
Better still I will be there next week watching the sunset with an Old Monk and Diet Coke in my sweaty mitt
Shining Star is now next to Oceanic on the left as you look out to Sea. It's where Silver Sands has been for the last few years.
Thats it Dave's wife When we first went to Goa we used to alternate between the Shining Star and The Oceanic. We still keep in contact with the boys from the Shining Star and sometimes go to their BBQ nights. Do you remember Lucky from the Shining Star? Lovely person, he opened his own shack up at Arambul, we went up to visit him, he was overwhelmed
Can't say I remember Lucky, it was Rocky who looked after us.
We only went to Shining Star because Silver Sands was where we always used to go and as Shining Star was in its place we thought we'd give them a go.
They were very good for the first 2/3 days but one morning we were at the shack about 9.00am and couldn't even get a bottle of water, they were still clearing up from the night before.
When we went down the next day at about the same time and asked for 2 coffees and a menu we were told please wait we're not open yet We always give a reasonable tip at the end of the day and don't think we were expecting too much to get our breakfast at 9.00am, we've never had a problem before, so we wallked about 3/400 yards towards Calangute and found "Shack by the Bay" it's quieter, no jet skis, and they were sweeping the beach in front of the shack. We thought we'd give it a try, food and service were excellent so that was the shack we adopted for the time we were there.
So what has happened to the Silver Sands, and where have all the boys gone from there, Raj, Sami and Johnny etc??
Silver sands as a beach shack does not now exist. The owner has opened a restaurant called Silver Sands if you walk up from Baga Beach it's on the left hand side about 200 yards before you get to East meets West. Sammy is working in the resturant and will be delighted to see you I'm sure, same chef and food is just as good.
Raj is working next door to where Siver Sands shack was in St. Anthony's. John is not there this year and neither is Javid (Peter) or Koran who does the massages. They came at the beginning of the season but as silver sands was not there they went home.
The owner was offered a plot further up the beach but he decided not to take it and sold his licence to the owner of Shack by the Bay. IMO Shack by the bay is better placed and it's much quieter, probably the reason why he chose not to have his shack there as he wouldn't have done so much business.
Just got back yesterday from a fantastic 3 weeks in Goa, we ate in the silver sands restaurant (great food a little cramped if busy though) and were told that the shack would be back on the beach next season.
The watersports are using a dishonest tactic too. They will lure you, with a cheap rate of 150 rups for 1 lap, do 2 and you should pay 300/-? No wrong 800/-. They will not justify a lap,so obviously you step out their guideline, straight away.Or if they do it's non sensical. Remember petrol is dirt cheap in Goa.600/- for 15 mins is reasonable. Move to Clangute or Candolim watersports.
The night clubs have changed for the worse also over the years, if your happy to pay 260/- for a double vodka and soda water prepared in a vending machine thimble (sorry cup) carry on.There are late bars in the area selling reasonable priced drinks.A good tip is to pay as you go.Some bar tenders assume your drunk and hike up the price.Try protesting!! Your drunk and can't remember. No one call be so happy and funloving without being drunk, can they? You must know where I'm coming from. Please pay as you go,they don't like it,but we do.
Goa is getting spoilt by greedy and dishonest ways from such people don't encourage it,pass the word on, to places that should be avoided.
I have just come back from a fantastic 3 week holiday in Goa, we have used Squeeze shack for the last 7 years, it is the 2nd one in from the river, it is relatively quiet there most of the time and we are very well looked after every time we go, we regard all the staff as friends and I'm sure they feel the same, we get a great reception when we return year after year and a great send off (which makes me cry every time) when we go home.
