I don't think it is an error - When I saw how much our Thomas Cook flight had gone up I looked at Monarch out of curiosity which flies out on December 26th and it was over £1,000 - It's getting stupid. Who ever thought of a Charter flight costing twice more than a scheduled.

Thomson and Monarch if they are going to ask for prices such as you've quoted, they will end up pulling out of the route when you get great fares to Mumbai.

flight with BA for your dates - to Mumbia £431
Daves wife- for yours it is £584

I know Fiona, it was around that price when we booked our flight with Thomas Cook. We thought we would pay the extra few pounds with Thomas Cook for a direct flight. (At the time we booked we were only paying about £20.00 more)

As for the prices being quoted now they are just outpricing themselves and it will be scheduled for us next time, unless they realise the error of their ways and reduce their prices by a considerable amount.

Its unreal, I just don't get it... :duh ............ and we were out and about tonight, admittedly it was late (well from 10pm till about 11.30pm) but you would never believe how empty the place is, we had a meal in Capricorn (Calangute) and took a spin down to Baga afterwards and everywhere was shut apart from a few places with one or two people in... even at 10pm there was no traffic and nobody about on the streets much or in the restaurants we could see in .. also a lot of the Kashmiris we know have shut up and left already, its not even April yet for heavens sake and everyones saying 'season finished'!! :yikes what will dec and jan next year be like with these charter prices???

With the price increases and the fall in general standards and uncertainty of what you are really going to get in Goa for your money (taxi's, shack prices, restaurants), I think UK tourists will vote with their feet.

I know a few people who can't be bothered with the problems with Goa and will now go elsewhere. Those who go for direct flights and packages aren't going to buy into these prices.

Also, how many of these flights/packages will be cancelled nearer the departure date?

I agree Neil. There is every likelyhood that a lot of the charter flights for next season will be cancelled. So if people have already booked for winter 2009/10,you can bet 50% will be changed nearer the time.

Yes who knows whats going to happen. Looks like it could get cheaper to fly via Mumbai if things get bad in Goa and accomodation prices fall. Can they really hike the prices up for food. taxis etc, if they do tourism figures will drop again.

Slightly OT. I was on the look for an occasional suit and had thought about getting one made in Goa. Think twice! High Street stores have great prices, I tried on a very nice plain suit in M & S for £49.95 that's not in a sale. OK it's not silk or pure wool but it fitted great and you can exchange and also mix/match. Also shirts are cheap. Don't be fooled by the overinflated tailors.

Does everyone think that prices for food etc in Goa itself will go up if the season starts off bad? Accomodation? :que

Think I might need to start saving sooner rather than later this year :think

Yes the prices will go up if the season starts off bad like it did this year. They still want to make the same profit whether they have 10 or 100 customers and just like this past season the prices have risen and risen as they see their profits going down as the weeks go on.
One beer which we paid 30rps for when we went in November had risen to 45rps a couple of weeks ago and the price in the bottle shop had gone up by precisely nothing.

Waterproof we will never understand Goan logic, their attitude seems to be " Less customers = We must charge more" which is a very short sighted & totally daft solution. Someone mentioned the cost of accommodation, I contacted a place down south for a price for 4 nts next year and were he used to take sterling, because of the way the £ is he will now only take rps. This makes it more expensive for us all........Keith

I dont agree at all ,that prices will go up,I think many of the places will put there prices down just to
get people in the doors, the guest houses prices will fall and there will be many restaurants who wont
wont even be there next season, mostly the ones who got to greedy this season and found people wont go there because there not willing to pay the higher prices. Many of the packed restaurants this year did not put there prices up. They can only put them up if you are willing to pay them.
Dont use them :que
