Turunc

kristian,

Welcome onboard :tup
Turunc is located at the bottom of a valley in a remote area. It's a lovely peaceful village and very scenic, but it might not be the best place to take a 13 year old. It's a very low key resort and apart from a few bars and restaurants, there's little going on. You might be better looking at Icmeler which provides more for famillies while not being too lively (unless you want that!). There's always Marmaris with it's water parks if you want somewhere more lively. You can easily transfer between Marmaris and Icmeler using the Dolmus or water taxi's.

I have been to Icmeler and was a bit too lively for my taste, even though a very nice place.

kristian,

I forgot to add, have you had a look through the resort report section for Turunc? There's some useful opinions / information on there.

We went to Turunc a couple of years ago and it was really nice, there are quite a lot of restaurants along the sea front and the road behind. Not much in the way of bars but that was fine for us, we have two young children so we don't tend to stay out too late. You can get into Icmeler and Marmaris easily by water taxi if you fancy it.

We really enjoyed it. I don't know much about what 13 year olds like to do but if you are after a relaxing holiday then Turunc is very nice.

Why dont you stay in Turunc, and visit Icmeler a couple of times so your son can have some fun, that way you get the best of both worlds.

We stayed in Turunc loved it but would not take our teenage grandkids there for two weeks they would go stir crazy, of course all depends what your son likes to do, nothing worse than a miserable teenager on holiday, if they are happy you will be to.

Have a look at Dalyan, nice place not as quiet as Turunc but plenty going on to keep you occupied but trad Turkish and gorgeous sceenery.

It really depends on what the teenagers are like. We have taken our daughters there as teenagers and they loved it. It feels very safe there, its the sort of resort where you soon get to know everyone. It's amazing how in the evening when you wander down the main street through the village, after you've been there a couple of days how many people already know you, and stop and have a chat.
Relatives of ours who go to both Hisaronu and Turunc, love it in Turunc because they say people have more time for you.
There are usually quite a few families with young teenagers and they tend to get together in the evenings, because its safe enough for them to have a bit of freedom and spread their wings, away from from parents. Its also small enough to know that they are never far away.

I have visited Turunc a couple of times, just for the day,and its a lovely resort with just a few bars and restaurants compared to other places. It might suit you,but personally I dont think it will suit a 13 year old.

we have been to turunc and liked it there but prefer akyaka, my friend came with us last year with her 3 boys aged, 10,11 and 14 and they loved it, they went on a canoe up the river, a boat trip, dived off the rocks around the coast, we took them all to marmaris water park 1 day which is only 20 miles away. my children came with us they were 8 and 18 and both love akyaka, there is an outdoor cinema too, so might be a bit more going on than turunc and its a beautiful resort with a gorgeous beach and the main bonus is its a lot nearer to dalman airport about 50 mins. have a look at these links, very turkish resort in a conservation area, very pretty scenery surrounded by mountains. good luck with where ever you decide to go

Kristian, it might be easier if you say what you and your son actually like to do. What are your interests? Am certain you will get lots of response if people know what you are looking for :tup

He is in to the usual for a teenage boy

Football - infact any sport in gereral, computer games, he does like swimming and water slides

I have been looking a Side today which looksl ike a better option

Maybe somehere around Bodrum may suit too. There are lots of different resorts there, you son may like Gumbet but you may find it a bit too lively. There are some other resorts that are a bit quieter and you could go into Bodrum for activities. Have a look at some resort reports and see what you think.

I should think he would like one of the big AI hotels around Side, most of which have water-slides and activities for teenagers.

as said by others depends on the teenager but we took ours when he was 13 and he still talks fondly of Turunc and would like to go back (is now an ancient 17 yr old!) He hated the time we spent visiting Marmaris and thought Icmeler was okish.
It felt safe to let him go off on his own as well for short periods

THanks for all the Info and comments.

We have now booked our holiday and have decided on Cesme, staying at the Piril Hotel.

Has anyone else stayed there or having an y feedback?

i stayed in cesme a few years ago but not that hotel. its a very cute place, has a castle on the sea front, its a small compact town, it attracts lots of rich turks who holiday there, we enjoyed our holiday there, as it was fairly laid back and we would consider returning there 1 day. have a lovely holiday :tup
