Your comment regarding the insurance aspect of the tyres is interesting, we think alike! Whilst I was at the desk waiting for the first car several people completed the paperwork, were requested to take out the extra tyre/glass/locks insurance for 30 Euros, which they did and were given cars immediately - and albeit they said the car I was waiting for was being cleaned in actual fact it was in the car park the whole time, as the AirAuto row of vehicles is right next to the car park kiosk and no new cars came in whilst I waited.
As I said, in short, c**p service with bad attitude to customer safety.
On another note though, I'm back out to Faro airport at the end of June and in March got a quote for car hire, in which AirAuto again were the cheapest, however, going back to retrieve the quote now it shows that TravelRent are the cheapest - and I must admit the TravelRent staff were not busy at all when I was collecting the car on the 29 April and I wondered if this reflected the fact that people had realised they were getting expensive. I spend a lot of time over the border in Spain and Drive4Fun are now including breakdown/recovery in Spain, which none of the other companies do, so I may well try them for our June visit.
Will report back if I do use them.
