Hi, going to stay at the Oasis Papagayo for the first time on 19th september for 2 weeks. Read mixed reviews about the food at the hotel so unsure whether to go all inclusive or not. Also does anyone know how much per person per day all inclusve is if you pay direct to the hotel.

Hi piratewilly, papagayo IS a thomson's kids hotel and is pretty lively around the main pool, which is a huge saltwater pool. If you are looking for a more chilled out experience there is a small freshwater pool at the back of the complex which is pretty much a hidden gem. It has it's own snack bar and is just generally a much quieter place to relax. There's a supermarket on site, though it's pretty expensive and a five minute stroll is all that's needed to find one of the many netto supermarkets that are dotted around....
The hotel itself is situated at the top of the hill and a twenty minute walk along the main strip to the harbour area. We've found this a pleasant walk in the evenings, as there are plenty of bars and restaurants along the way for you to check out, though a cab back up the hill is a good shout and pretty inexpensive.
Hope you found this post helpful and if you have any more questions, just ask. :cheers

I have merged your enquiry with this existing topic about the Oasis Papagayo, which may provide you with some useful info while you wait for further feedback.

We also have a separate Weather Q&As topic which may be of interest.

We stayed for 2 weeks in October 2009 at this hotel & were all inclusive. 3 of us - me, hubby & 10 year old son. Thompson left the hotel in the middle of our stay, whilst they were there - games etc were around the main pool for a fair bit of the day and the evenings in the main bar were lively, however once they had gone it was dead. The entertainment was very bad, if you like Kareoke then thats on alternative nights. The food at the hotel was great, morning, lunch & evenings had a great variety. The pool side snack bar didnt change much. The pools were lovely and even the salt pool had loads of people enjoying themselves. The rooms were large and spacious. When we arrived there wasnt a kettle in the room, i asked at reception for one and within 15 mins someone appeared at the door with a kettle. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Special thanks would go to Emma (English lady) who serves in the bar most nights. She was very helpful in giving information.
Would we go back - definately yes but would make sure Thompson were there for the whole of our stay.

Stayed at the Oasis Papagayo twice last year and enjoyed it both times. Could quite happily go again sometime in the future as we liked both the complex and Corralejo itself. Review posted here

We have booked to go here next August 2011. We have 4 children so got 2 free child places saving about £1200 off the price. We were surprised at the final cost of £3700 for 2 weeks all inclusive, flying from Manchester. Booked with Thomsons. We could have paid £3500 if we had flown from Birmingham but the flights weren't as good.

That works out at £44 per person per day. Where can you stay in the UK for that amount?? And keep 4 children amused all day? You can't!!!

Reading the reviews I am finding that they are quite mixed and constant talk about the food at the Oasis Papagayo seems to be an issue. We have stayed at many hotels AI and read many reviews and can't believe what some peoples expectations are - never the less it does make you worry slightly till you get there and can decide for yourself.

I hope Thomsons sort the 'food' issue out this year.

And shall look forward to reading more about this hotel

Hi

We had booked to go here next year (see previous post above) after reading various reviews on here (and Trip Advisor) and having a FANTASTIC holiday in Turkey this year we cancelled our holiday to Oasis Papagayo and are now going back to Turkey next August 2011.

The burglaries worry us, and the food, although we are not fussy is just not up to standard (below 50% in the Thomson customer satisfaction panel in the brochure). One or two negative reviews then that wouldn't worry us, but there are a lot recently and we just don't trust Thomson to sort it out...they haven't yet?? And it's been lowered to 3 star??

It's cost us an extra £900 to go to Turkey but well worth it for peace of mind

ive gone D.I.Y this year as i'm off to one of there on site villas that is owned privately from the complex. so i'm not really worried about how let down it as become, but feel for the people who have booked to go on the complex, i will have to give it a review when i get back . ive paid for 5 people in a villa with the private pool, including flights, baggage each, speedy boarding and two weeks car hire (large estate) pick up and drop off at airport a total of £1,820. in my mind thats pretty good value. i go in the 8th of september, and looking forward to this one as i love this island.

well here is my penny worth, im in the downstairs internet on the complex as i type. ive had a walk about and found cig ends all over, grounds with no grass at all, rubbish bins full, and rubbish around the bins, grounds with rubbish strown across it, and the ants is unbelivable, tiles round the pools are indeed cracked and lifted, i have taken photos of proof just to show im genuine, not sure what the complex accomdation is like, as i was getting funny looks whilst taking photos
