Hi,
Does anybody know if visas will be issued at the Consular visits, I haven't found anything on the HCI website which suggests they will.

well, I'm assuming that the 'Consular Visits' detailed on my link are the same as visa surgeries and that visa surgeries are the same as they were a couple of years ago, which is:
you attend with completed application form, passport, fee (usually in postal orders) and HCI staff process your application and stick your visa into your passport - all in the same day.

And it normally takes allday, unless you get to the surgery about 6 oclock in the morning. Done it once never again

got to agree with kags on this.
the few pound extra that it costs by post is well worth it.

I've experienced that too, but my personal oponion is that I think the main problem with the visa surgeries was that the HCI, almost without notice and within a couple of months of the start to the 2007/08 Goa season, stopped accepting postal applications.
Obviously that meant personal visits to London, Birmingham or Edinburgh or one of the surgeries.

With so many people wanting visas ready for November, the surgeries were very busy.

I know that the one in Bradford in October 2007 was chaos. Many people had queued from 8am and at around 4pm, they just closed the doors and told people still waiting to be seen 'no visa today'.
I was told (by someone who was there) that a crowd of disappointed and angry people pushed into the building and the police were called.
As news spread, people started arriving at the surgeries even earlier.

We went to the Nottingham one the week after Bradford, arrived at 6am and there were probably 30 or so people in front of us. We finally got our visas around 11am.
By the time we left the quesue was massive. However, the guys (not HCI staff) who ran the community centre were well organised. They issued raffle tickets and when they got to 500 (the visa limit for the day) they sent the people who still queuing home.

I'm not sure how the new surgeries will pan out but maybe they won't be so busy as people still have the option to apply by post if that suits them better.

Thats the way it was with us in manchester ,but they stopped at 1 oclock we were in the last 5 or so to get one. Now we use a agent in a Bolton a bit more expensive but no hassle and visas back in 5 to 10 days

Has anybody been to the one in Liverpool? and if so where is it?

I can't seem to find the address on the website.

Thanks.

Before everyone gets too excited about the "re-born after a years gap in 2008" visa surgeries, can I suggest a hint of caution.

It is far from certain that any given surgery will actually happen, several have not happened so far, including today's at Leicester, as far as I know.

The one and only place where details can be checked is the HCI website at the link given above, but earlier this week all adresses and contact details were removed, just leaving the calendar. So as of now there is no way to find out where they are being held!

It is also far from certain as to whether they are actually issuing visas like before, or whether they are simply acting as a payment and receiving centre, and its almost impossible to find out either.

We, along with "Waterproof" were planning to travel to Leicester, but after a load of wasted phone calls earlier in the week, gave up and I went to Hayes on Wednesday and collected my visa on Friday.

Things might change by the autumn when most of you will be thinking about visas, I am just telling it like it is at present. But while the only source of information is not even telling you where to go....................................

hi all me and my family have been to goa for the past 11years,every year it seems to get harder and harder to get cheap flights, also the visa price keeps going up,anyone going first time must find this to be a mine field just to book a simple holiday,i know it is for us who have been going for years, what is their agenda to get more people in or to keep more people out?
