I like Monarch, they have always had good peformance when i have been with them and aircraft are good, food maybe pants but i don't wanna find myself sleeping in Manchester Terminal 1 on 10th July.
I want a press release soon with Monarch denying claims about strike action.

the less said by either side the better, as most people in the UK are aware the only thing you can believe is the title on the main page as they don't always get the date right, and any denial by either side will only fuel further speculation as the press will turn it round to their own ends, they are only interested in sensationalised bad news as it is the only way they can sell their wares by frightening their readers/listeners

partyboy_uk wrote:boygeorgefan, I would stick to your original plans. I can tell you now that not one of my colleagues were even aware of any possible strike action and those who have discovered such ridiculous statements have been released to the press by the union are not happy about it. There is little or no support for strike action within Monarch and many, including myself, are angry that such language has been used by union activist cronies to get the company to concede to their unrational demands at such a difficult time for the airline industry. Rest assured, a strike now will never happen :tup
thank god for that! so are you currently working for monarch as a cabin crew member, partyboy_uk? just for my peace of mind
when there be more news about the strike.
Amidst the usual predictions of summer holiday chaos, what the media reports actually said was that a ballot for strike action may be held some time in July. At this point in time there has been no ballot and no definite plans or agreement for any strike. Rather than panic or speculate over what may be no more than media scaremongering, it's probably best ignored unless we hear some reliable information to the contrary in July.
Further speculation and off topic discussion about strikes involving Monarch, other airlines, supermarket staff, etc have been removed from this topic.
Flying on 26th June to Skiathos Flight Number MON 1548 back on MON 1549 from Gatwick
Can someone please tell me what sort of plane this will be and the configuration?
Also, are seats allocated at check in? Dont need extra leg room as all under 5ft!! would rather just sit together if possible, there are three of us, so not sure if it will be a problem.
Also does this flight have IFE and if so, does anyone know what will be playing?
many thanks
LGW-JSI-LGW (MON1548/9) are operated by a Boeing 757-200. Seating is allocated at checking and the aircraft is fitted with IFE. partyboy_uk might be able to help with the listing.
Darren
Thanks for the quick reply as usual Dazbo
I have asked about Monarchs allocated seat policy before on this thread and am still confused!! My last two flights were with Monarch and both times was told at check-in seats were pre-allocated so no way could I get an aisle seat.
Maybe partyboy could clear this up.
Flying with them again in June so I would like to know where I stand. (or sit) !!!
I don't book seats and am prepared to sit any where they tell me, but always wait to see whats happening when I board last year we moved from allocated seats to what were more suitable for us, not expecting or moving to extra leg room seats which other passengers have paid for. I am afraid you get what you pay for, so don't expect anything other.
Dave
I can't pay for certain seats as we are booked through TC and you can only book seats together.
I can't have extra legroom as I have a disability and trying to get through to Monarch is a nightmare. So you would have thought check-in staff would be a bit more helpful.
Howcome Monarch had lots of subcharters last summer from Manchester ?
Will the same happen this summer ?
It was not my intention to appear harsh at all, but to highlight the fact that there is no such thing as a free lunch and that we have to pay for whatever we want. The difference seems to be between Charter and Scheduled flights, on Scheduled you can reserve via the web site seats that are suitable to you at a price, perhaps you can not on charter but they do seem to reserve what is known as medical seats, which I inderstand you must make them aware of your need, Regular travellers will of course be aware that some people abuse this concession, and I do not suggest for one minute that you fall in to this category, I recently wrote to Monarch Customer Services with a concern regarding a flight which was very quickly sorted to my satisfaction, If I may of offended you I do apologise and wish you a very happy holiday and a comfortable flight.
Dave.
Monarch had a bad year with aircraft technical problems in 2008, for example both of their A332's were out of action at the same time for a while so other airlines were used to cover for them. They were also appointed by the CAA to repatriate stranded passengers when XL collapsed and leased in other airlines to operate flight for them. Unless aircraft have technical problems, they should be operating their own fleet as normal.
Darren
cazB,
Well my flight's still an A321 im guessing ???? has the flight time changed again because it now says 23:55.
Also alot of people are saying the strike is scare talk
boygeorgefan ... if a ballot is held in July, if it votes in favour of strike action, if specific dates are then announced for strike action, and if those dates coincide with your flight bookings, then that may be the time to start asking questions about the impact of any strike action. Until then, it's best just to try and forget about it and not continually raise it in the forum. Media stories such as that are often intended to panic and scaremonger, and follow up discussion about them here just does precisely that.
David
