Jimbob,
What are your dates of travel? It varies depending on day. You'll be lucky to get G-VSUN, It's only operated VS021 once in the last 2 months. It was operating out of Manchester on the Barbados flight last week.
Darren
Thats a shame, although about time the passengers from Manchester had some decent IFE!
It's normally VS022 from the previous day that goes on to operate VS021, although odd flights come in from Chicago (VS040) or Boston (VS012). They seem to swap and change aircraft all the time given there's spare capacity.
Darren
Sorry a few questions
What plane will we be flying on
What IFE will we have
Meals on Board
Also is the online check in difficult to use - does it give you step by step instructions i get a bit nervous using online check in as i ended up one time putting us 20rows apart
Thanks ED
LGW-LAS-LGW (VS043/4) are operated by a Boeing 747-400. You'll find more information on our What Aircraft? thread. The aircraft will be fitted with Oddssey or Supa Nova (details on V-Flyer) and an IFE listing is on Virgins website. Other deatails here. Online check-in is easy, just follow the screen and you'll be fine.
Darren
Thanks for your very quick reply
Sorry Darren
They swap and change them all the time so it's hard to predict. I would think VS will know well in advance for scheduling and maintenance reasons, but we wouldn't! As an example, the following have been used so far in June:
1st June: G-VTOP (Odyssey)
2nd June: G-VROS (Super Nova)
3rd June: G-VLIP (Super Nova)
Darren
So now after all you help I know the difference between odessy and super nova
So just hope for a supa nova
My partner will think I am quiet intelligent when I can explain the difference !!!
Ed
Hi Dazbo. We're flying to ANU with VA on 16-30th Dec 09 and are looking at prices for UC/PE upgrades. Last flight with VA was last month LGW-MBJ (UC) and MBJ-LGW (PE) and this had the old PE seats and we found them really uncomfortable compared to the new leather seats that we have always had (probably luckily) previously in PE. The database on V-Flyer doesn't seem to be working for this particular route so I cannot see which particular aircraft are most commonly used. Are you able to advise the likelihood of getting an aircraft with new PE seats on this route based on previous flight history? If it's more likely to be new PE then we'll go for a PE upgrade as UC is really expensive at Xmas time! Many thanks
Is it the VS033/4 you're looking at? They use several aircraft rotated on a regular basis from the LGW/MAN suite ones. G-VAST / VGAL / VROS / VLIP / VHOT / VROY / VROM / VTOP are all commonly used with no particular one operating most frequently.
Darren
Yes Darren it is indeed VS033/34. Do you know how I can check which of these aircraft (or even just what percentage) have the new PE seats so I can look at probability and decide whether to ugrade or not? Looking at V-Flyer flight reviews for PE on this route (and there are not many) they all look to have been on aircraft with the old seats. Also, out of interest, do you happen to know what happened to the scheduled seat upgrades as I know that we first flew with the new PE seats in May 2007 (MBJ) and I had at that time understood that there was on ongoing programme to upgrade all PE seats. I assume this has now been suspended for some reason (economy?) as we were surprised to get old seats in PE last month when I assumed that the programme would have been long complete? Thanks, as always, for your help.
I'm not sure what happened to the seat upgrades to be honest, it seemed to start but they never got round to completing all the aircraft. I don't know of a list detailing which aircraft have the old / new PE seats installed.
Darren
Not a problem - thanks anyway Darren.
I today received a cheque in the post as settlement for the fuel surcharge illegally levied by Virgin Atlantic.
On to planning our next holiday allready.... I was just wondering what time check in opens at London Heathrow airport for flights to Miami? Can you check in the day before here or is that somewhere else? Anybody know possibility of getting exit seats if we get there early? Thanks.
Suggest you check-in online the day before (-24hrs) and then just drop bags at check-in.
I think the check-in desks open from about 4am. It will generally be about 3 hours before their first departure. I think my earliest has been checking about 4.45am.
No night before checkin at LHR as far as I know.
Ah thank you, so do you know whats the earliest time you can purchase exit seats on this flight? is it when check in opens on that day? Thanks.
Certainly worth asking at check-in on the day. You have to meet certain criteria to be able to sit in an exit row so they will likely only sell these to you on the day. The earlier you arrive at check-in I guess the more chance you have of being able to buy these.
Don't forget you can reserve your seats (not exit ones) free of charge via "manage your booking" on http://www.virginatlantic.com - that's worth doing.
Its newer planes that go from heathrow isnt it with a different entertainment system?
Also as we have never flew from heathrow, is there actuall queues for your percific virgin atlantic flight or is there just one sign? As i noticed at Orlando we were also in the queue with people flying back to gatwick....
