Flight Only / Airline and Airports

My additional thoughts to this varying IFE on different planes and no doubt it's been disscussed again and again. Now I know the airline say that the entertainment side of a flight does not form part of the holiday but I think its wrong that it can vary quite significally on one flight to another depending on which plane you get. :que

puds1970,

I quite agree but when it costs millions per aircraft to upgrade the IFE, it's not something that can be done all at once. The older aircraft generally have the more basic IFE while the newer aircraft on the more lucrative routes, ie those out of LHR, have the better system.

I suppose as it's not the priority when you book a holiday and it keeps the cost down it's no bad thing.
After doing a little looking back at the rota of planes used to fly this route I think it wil carry the Super nova IFE as it seems to rotate every 2 weeks.

I seem to remember a link to a site giving an opinion on how good the seats are on each aircraft. If anyone knows what I'm talking about can you please post the link? Ta
Also, we are flying to St Lucia from Gatwick on 21 May 2010 flight VS031 I believe and I would appreciate knowing what plane it will be so that I can prebook our seats.
many thanks :tup

From the Virgin website:
**Any passenger holding a ticket, booked and ticketed before 25 November 2009, will be entitled to Virgin Atlantic's existing baggage allowance.

Now this might sound like a silly question but I hope someone will be able to help me:

We are flying to St Lucia May 21 next year from Gatwick. I've been on to the website to prebook my seats and been on to seatguru.
My question is - are the seats aligned together? What I mean is that I am looking to book 3 seats but with an aisle in between, so two of us on one side and one in the middle row (we like this because we can swap seats without bothering anyone and then both get an aisle seat and can have a bit of time out from our little boy if we want to watch a film in peace etc!) but it looks like the middle row DEFG and right hand row HJK aren't exactly opposite each other which would be no good for us, is it just the way it looks online or are they not exactly in a row together?

I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say! :duh

missadi,

It All Works On Supply And Demand:
  • If There Are Lots Of Seats Left To Book And Not Many People Wanting To Book Them Then Prices Will Be Cheaper
  • If There Are Not Many Seats Left Or There Is A Great Demand For Them Then Prices Can Be Higher

The Price Of The Flights Probably Won't Decrease, So The Question Is Are You Willing To Pay What They Are Asking For.

I Always Think, If I Am Happy To Pay Then Pay It, And Don't Look In The Future To See Whether Or Not The Cost Has Gone Down As If It Has You Will Be Disappointed, But If You Never Look, You Will Never Know

Hope That Helps

PE is the new Economy.
People want teh PE leg room and now with the baggage changes, the 2 x 23Kg per person.
All this year PE has been quite full.

Pe was full to the brim in July outward and return so can now see the logic behind the price increase

Thanks all x

The simple answer is - Yes with a slight variance in some rows - but it is hardly noticeable.

I think however you may find that the seating selection process won't allow you to pick this selection.

If you think about it by doing what you wish you will then leave the window seat unallocated - great for perhaps a single traveller but not great for a couple or family group that face being split up and not seated together.

Suggestions would be:-

1. Just pick a row of three seats together (like ABC_xxxx_xxx or xxx_xxxx_HJK)

2. On the B747 towards the back there are blocks of two seats on the outer sides then four seats in the middle. Opt for a block of two then one over the aisle. look at http://www.seatguru.com for the layout.

3. If you really want to take two seats one side and one seat the other with the aisle between you then look at the aisle seat being on the the window block side and the two other seats from the middle block of four (xxC_DExx_xxx) as then at least a couple can take the seats on either side of your family. However as I said before the system might not allow this as it will be programmed to try to keep family groups together and utilise the seats in the best way for all passengers.

yes that's what I've chosen, two seats and one, I wouldn't sit two of us in a 3 seat row! I maybe didn't make that clear in my original post.

Hi, we have booked our flight to Nairobi with Virgin, we flew with them 2 years ago and they were fantastic. Even more excited as I understand we now have new planes on this route.....well new to the route, not new planes!!

We are in PE and I'm a little concerned about our pre booked seats. I have searched on here to try and find out which plane we are on so I can look at seatguru but can't find any info.

Does anyone know which plane it will be please? we fly out on 22nd Jan from Heathrow VS671. I have booked the furtherest back 2 seats in PE as I like to put my chair back but am very aware of the person behind me. It makes me feel claustraphobic if someone does it to me so I don't like doing it to others!!!

Enough waffle, thanks for the help in advance :O)

You'll be on the A340-300

Try seatguru, or http://www.v-flyer.com/seatmaps.asp

This is a great site, dedicated just to Virgin Atlantic and other Virgin airlines.

I'm not sure how you booked this flight, but if you use Virgin again and book online, a top tip is to click on the flight number when you get the initial price and it brings up detailed flight information, including meals/flight times and aircraft type.
