Flight Only / Airline and Airports

Discussions relating to flight only, airlines and airports.

In my idea this API was only created to hopefully make money out of people who do enter the wrong passport details.

The API requirement was implemented by Spain as part of enhanced security and anti-terrorism measures, rather than by Ryanair or any other airlines which collect the info from passengers on behalf of Spain.

All flights I've booked to Spain recently have required Advanced Passenger Info at the time of booking, but, I've recently booked with Air Europa and haven't had to supply any details. Are they, or any airline for that matter still able to take these details at checkin? (I thought I'd get an update as it's been some months since the last post on this subject!)

djk,

If they haven't asked for the information at the time of booking, they'll collate the details at check-in.

We have just received the following from Jewel in the Crown whom we are travelling with.

"We have been advised by Monarch Airlines that they require information for every travelling passenger including children and infants. All information provided must be exactly as stated in the passengers travelling document. The airline will then forward the information onto the Home Office.

Monarch has advised us that they require this information for all flights departing from 01DEC. We are developing a system whereby agents/clients can input this information directly onto our website but, in the meantime, we require you to fill in the attached form for this booking. This will need to be returned to us with the information as soon as possible to admin@jewelholidays.com ,

Failure to supply this information may result in clients experiencing long delays at check-in/immigration or even being refused boarding."

More form filling to do.

We also had to provide this information to Qatar Airline.

Hi Sleeps, I found out when I phoned them up about seat reservations and then also noticed a message on their website, where you look at "my booking." All you need to do is phone them up and give them your booking reference number, then your passport number and date of birth. :tup

It's no big deal, the airlines are responsible for who they carry and arrive with so it's natural they want your passport info etc. It also helps security.
I filled mine in with my ticket purchase with Qatar. It took longer to go through the on board menu options !

API has been a requirement to some destinations for quite a while now and is being rolled out across all routes to/from the UK through the year. Most airlines offer online API at the time of booking / online check-in. I would imagine Monarch will do the same. We have a topic covering API here.

Thanks Darren, both topics now merged to reduce duplication.

Strange ...
I've booked a Monarch flight about 4 hours ago via Monarch's website and they've not asked for API. ( I know I have to suppy API)
I'm (was) presuming that their check-in desk terminals at Manchester can read the encrypted info required from my passport when I check-in.

Maybe I will have to go back into their website and give them the info.? :shrug

It is possible that they will do it at checkin. By the sound of it you've booked on a schedule flight, they may have different rules for charter groups. For some countries, notably USA, API data has to be sent to them for checking several hours before take off so any airlines affected by this will have to either ask you check in hours early or be able to take it online. There's no definate rule at present, it depends on airline attitude and country of destination.

I have Steve. :tup
I've just looked at the e.mail/ticket and apart from the flight info and payment details, there's plenty of info about Carriage of dangerous goods..General Information..Pre-allocated seats...Travel Insurance...Baggage Allowance, but not a word about API.
I've only ever flown with Thomson Airways since API was introduced and I've never had to give API beforehand or check -in any earlier, Thomson have always collected it with one swipe of my passport when I reach the check-in desk.

I might check this out before next June... although it's not exactly "urgent" at the moment.

I booked a scheduled Monarch flight on Tuesday and on the email confirmation there was a link to add API. I opened the link before realising that I need to renew my passport before that flight so didn't go any further. The link has now gone. You can add the API by going into manage booking/account.
I've never had to do this on a charter. I think they just collect it at check in.

Just re checked and double checked again and there is nothing ...
There's a link for adding baggage, link to check-in online, link to purchase Insurance, link to book a hotel/Car parking, link to upgrade seat for extra leg room and a link to view Monarch's menu.
no link or anything about API :shrug
It doesn't even say something like " you are required to provide Advanced Passenger Information and you can do this by going into your account.

It was my tour operator who asked for the information. They said they had been asked by Monarch. Obviously we are charter, but whatever I suppose it is all done in the name of security which must be a good thing. I would like to think I will be coming home in one piece despite all the usual threats of terrorism around Xmas.

Im flying easy jet in December, when i booked the holiday back in September i received a request from the TO to supply api information at that stage

Sanji if you go into FAQ on Monarchs website, click check in & identification then click advanced passenger information and it will give you info on what countries it is required in, at the moment monarch it is only required travelling to Spain. You can also go into Manage my bookings and if required you can add API within that.

When I got my ticket booklet from Thomsons there was a page about registering API prior to travelling. I tried to log on to their website today to do this but it wouldn't accept my booking ref or name etc. I phoned the helpline number who said that although it specifically said on the booklet to log on to thomsons website I couldn't register API there as the flights are Monarch flights. I can't do it through Monarch's website as the reference number I have is a Thomsons one. The girl on the helpline said just to forget it and leave some extra time to register at the airport - is that right? I don't want to arrive at Edinburgh at 4.30 in the morning to have a big hoo-haa because the API registration hasn't been done in advanced. Appreciate any advice. Thks
