Arrived back Friday after another lovely, laid-back week.
For anyone who is off to Turunc this summer - thought you may be interested in an update on the restaurants.
There seem to be even more this year! We mainly tried to eat as simply as possible this holiday, we mostly avoided some
of the bigger well-used restaurants - even though they are still great!
We tried to use small, family run restaurants - some we have never tried before. One of our best meals was in the small restaurant next door to Pasha's which we had just thought of a pancake house before.
You have to book 4 hours before - and the choice was between chicken, lamb or meatball casserole.
There were 4 of us and we mostly chose different casseroles. The meal was absolutely delicious, it started with a couple of small unusual meze with fresh bread, then we had our main course. It was followed by fresh fruit. We also had a bottle of wine and a few beers, and paid
about 87 TL for four. Which with the good exchange rate at the moment works out about £9 each!
We also ate at Cinar in the road opposite the Mosque. We asked the waitress to recommend typical Turkish dishes, we had kebabs in delicous sauces and Shepherds lamb which was in a lovely spicy sauce. I think this meal was about the same price as the restaurant above.
We also ate in the Minem which fronts the beach, next to Korfez, and again they cooked us some different casseroles, we were also given a plate of fresh herbs - some of which we hadn't had before. We were then given a pastry and apricot desert on the house (home cooked).
Another lovely meal was King prawns at Musti's, which we asked Fevzi about at the beginning of the week, and got a text message when he got them.
We did go to two of our old favourites - we had Sea Bass at Cardaks, cooked to perfection, apparently it wasn't farmed as some of the other Sea Bass is, you could really tell the difference.
We finished our holiday at Bondjuk's where we had slow cooked oven lamb which you have to order 24 hours before. We started with the famous(in Turunc anyway) Bondjuk salad, prepared with a secret recipe, and had all the usual trimmings that you get with the lamb.
As you have probably guessed one of our main pleasures is eating, and this was one of our best holidays for good food! So its back to the diet till the next holiday!
What can I say, a mouthwatering post, thoroughly enjoyed reading this.
We're off to Turunc again end of August. Haven't tried the small place next to Pashas before, so I think you may have tempted us! Last year we discovered Antik restaurant, a lovely family run place, which we ended up going back to a couple of times, and will go again this year. There are just too many good restaurants for a fairly small resort, you don't have enough time to go back to them all.
What a great report. Can't wait to return to Turunc on the 12th August for the 5th time. I agree that there is not enough time to get around the restaurants in 2 weeks. We looked at the little restaurant next to Pasha's but presumed it was just like a pancake house. Must give it a try this year. Where is the Antik Restaurant located and also the Bondjuk that people mention? I know the restaurants that we enjoy going to but always willing to try some new ones. I may have already been to these but can never remember the names. Hopefully you can help with directions. Happy holidays to anyone else going to Turunc this year or anywhere else in fact. ESM.
The Antik is behind the petrol station and over the little bridge, and the Bondjuk is at the opposite end of the resort at the bottom of the hill as if you're setting off towards Icmeler.
Its from 11am to 1pm, and there is a really good selection of Meze, and barbecue'd chicken and meatballs, as much as you can eat.
We didn't manage to get there for an evening meal this time, but it was always very busy, so is obviously still good.
