Flight Only / Airline and Airports

Hi All,

I am a full-time wheelchair user who cannot walk at all. I booked a return flight (with a companion) from Gatwick to Hamilton for August along with extra legroom seats at the front of the aircraft both ways.

My reasons for booking with Globespan were:
1) A direct flight - since I cannot walk, I cannot use an aircraft loo, therefore the shorter the flight the better. Direct across the Atlantic, with a little careful regulation of liquid intake the day before, is about the limit of my bladder's capability!
2) The flight is to Hamilton, not Toronto - and I am staying just ten minutes drive away from Hamilton.
3) The extra room seating which I could pre-book.

A couple of weeks after booking, Globespan emailed to say that the flight days had changed from Mondays to Sundays and that the flights would stop in Belfast both ways - adding almost two hours to the flight time. Not good! That put reason 1 for booking out of the window and left me to rearrange wheelchair accomodation (not an easy thing to do) in both Canada and at Gatwick for the night before leaving. I also had to change a theatre booking I had made in Canada and cancel a family dinner. I have been worrying about the extra flight time for my bladder's sake ever since.

Yesterday, Globespan emailed again to say that they had changed my pre-booked seats. I went straight to their website to look on a seating plan to find out what this actually meant only to discover that there was no seating plan which I could access. Since I already had pre-booked seats, it refused to show me the plan again. I am not a happy bunny about this!

Does anybody know where I can access a seating plan for the Gatwick to Hamilton Flights? :banghead:

Thanks in advance for help.

Jonathan.

Dramatist,

Sorry to hear of your problems. Is it the GSM151/2 that you're booked on? I have a copy of a seating plan linked in this post for the 767-300/ER, but I beleive it's been changed since so it probably isn't accurate for your needs. It might be worth asking GSM to send you one as I know they've sent it out as a pdf file in the past.

Dramatist - when Flyglobespan changed our flight by 1 day (the outgoing flight) in 2007, their website didnt update correctly and still said we were in the same seats (even though they told us over the phone to re-choose them on the website!) so i called them up and they re-set the details so we could re-choose the seats.

Just as a side note, they also upgraded us to Business class (at that time they had Economy, Premium and Business all seperate - we had paid extra from Premium originally) for the inconvenience, which made such a difference!

My main concern when they changed our flight was we then had to find accommodation and car hire for an extra night! It all worked out fine in the end though.

Try and give them a call and see what they say.

Well, after reassuring people and "bigging up" Flyglobespan over the past 3 years, i am sad to say we will never ever be using them again.

If you read back all of my posts, you will see i always show Flyglobespan in a positive light, even though they have messed us around EVERY year. This year completely took the biscuit and, needless to say, after lots of pushing from them, they have finally lost our business. I give them the benefit of the doubt every year, but this year was rediculous.

Ill show you my previous 2 years experiences in my previous posts:

2007 is here:

http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=30904&start=360

This was when they changed our flight by a whole day but didnt bother telling us.....luckily we checked our schedule online and thats the first we heard of it!

2008 is here:

http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=30904&start=600

Not so bad as nothing actually changed, but the return flight was a worry that year! At least they called to tell us/worry us!

So this year, we checked our emails on a daily basis as usual - Flyglobespan tell us over and over again that they will notify by email of any changes (didnt happen in 2007 - a one-off we thought). We also checked our schedule on their website on a daily basis (again, since they updated that in 2007 without telling us).

No emails and no changes reported on their schedule. Still sending us spam emails about their sale ("Eek - our flight tomorrow is now only £120 - if only we had risked it and waited" we think).

So our flight is due to take off at 11:30am from Glasgow to Sanford. We turn up at the airport at 8am bright and early for check in when we notice our flight is showing as "Delayed" on the board. When we turn up to the desk we are informed of our 12 HOUR DELAY (Which eventually turned into a 13 hour delay because Flyglobespan "forgot" the turnaround hour - oh dear, how easy to forget!)

The girl at the desk is ARGUING with me and saying they sent us an email. I am arguing back that they didnt. After much arguing, she looks up our details and says "Oh yes, it shows here that there was no attempt to contact you - dont know how that has happened" (no apology i might add) - well try telling that to the 60-odd other confused people at the airport who also did not get any notification.

Now, i know delays happen on a regular basis and i know there may be nothing they can do to resolve this (e.g. put on another flight to catch up on the backlog?!), but they have known of this delay for 3 days!!! Some people were notified, so why wern't we all?!! Also, im not only paying for the flight, i am paying for a customer service, which in Flyglobespan's case absolutely stinks. I was absolutely fed up of hearing "Well its not actually MY fault" from the ground staff. I was also told this when i called Flyglobespan directly.

Absolutely horrendous start to our holiday. We were subsequently left panicking about our car hire and hotel over in Orlando. We didnt know if the car hire place would still be open at 4am (luckily they were). We also ended up paying for a hotel and car hire for 1 day we didnt need.

Flyglobespan will never EVER get our business. I am really sad to have to say that, but i feel we have given them enough chances!!! We would have been cheaper and quicker to get a flight from Manchester or even London! Oh, and needless to say, the schedule never was updated and the spam emails were still advertising the same times. Their website was also advertising the same times - i wouldnt trust their times at all - that flight would have had a knock on effect for the rest of that week at least.

Anyone have a contact email address for G/Span?

Trying to find out if a laptop is counted as hand luggage allowance, I've been told it doesn't but I want to clarify it with them. I am in Cyprus and travelling back next Tues., but it would be a bit expensive to phone them.

Cheers,
Jinty

Jinty,

You are only permitted to take one piece of hand luggage on to the aircraft no larger than 55cm x 45cm x 20cm. As far as I know, a laptop is counted within this.

Hi,

Perhaps someone could help. My son has just booked flights to Egypt (2 days ago)

They are:
06-NOV-2009 09:00 GSM7214 LONDON GATWICK AIRPORT-HURGHADA
13-NOV-2009 17:25 GSM7215 HURGHADA-LONDON GATWICK AIRPORT

Whilst I will look at Friday departures from LGW tomorrow, I am unable to find any GSM flights to Hurghada listed from LGW or at these times.

Can anyone shed some light please?

Thanks in advance

Peter

PeteB,

The flights are on charter so don't always show on airport websites and operate under the winter schedule so haven't commenced yet (they run from November).

Hadn't considered the winter schedule possibility. :duh

There are loads of charter flights shown ex LGW to HRG on Friday, but the times do not match at all.
