Hi
We are off to Cyprus on Sunday.
Myself and youngest son are vegetarians, now I know eating out won't be a problem but as we are in a villa we are planning on eating in a few nights - BBQ's etc. I can eat salads but my son like his burgers and sausage and I was wondering whether it is possible to buy vegetarian products in larger supermarkets?
Hope someone can help?
Thanks Irene
Orphanides up in Paralimni I'd say yes... they stock just about everything you get at home...
but if they like cheese you can't beat Halloumi Cheese on the BBQ/Grill/Griddle ! (have a look at my recipe for a Halloumi Kebab Sandwich )

Its not been something I've looked for to be honest.... but in the larger places like but if they like cheese you can't beat Halloumi Cheese on the BBQ/Grill/Griddle ! (have a look at my recipe for a Halloumi Kebab Sandwich )

It looks lovely ,Steve.I'm not a vegetarian but not a great meat eater so will give it a try,T.
I love halloumi Steve - so I'm definitely going to try that recipe out.
I'd buy extra Halloumi and make spares if I were you !
Is Halloumi cheese vegetarian ?
Halloumi cheese that I buy (which is just the one available in the supermarket, and isn't a special find in anyway) is suitable for vegetarians ! - I've just taken a picture so you can see the bottom left of the picture the green leaf saying suitable for etc..
I'm not a strict veggie so I occasionally eat normal cheese(veggie cheese is almost impossible to buy in Germany) but a friend is practically vegan and your recipe for the sandwiches looks like something we would both enjoy. I'll check it out, if I can't find the cheese here I'll bring some back from the UK next time I'm over there.

Halloumi,or Hellim cheese, is the national cheese of cyprus [although it is made in other EU countries] I have seen it on sale from time to time in Lidle stores and tesco when they are doing their taste of range
I get mine in asda... !.. they've always stocked it... and today I noticed they had tahini in as well !....
Thanks for the info on the supermarkets - I am sure if we can get what we want we will get it there.
Will take a bus into Paphos, get all we want and a taxi back.
Thanks also for the lovely recipe - one to try.
Irene
