Hi

Im flying to Dominican Republic (Samana) on the 6th September flight no TOM061. We have upgraded to premier class seating and im going to call up to reserve seats

I was wondering if anyone knows what model aircraft we will be flying on and can recommend a good seat number to request?

It is just me and my wife so we were hoping to get just two seats togther rather than sit in the line of 3 or 4 seats.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Best Regards
Neil

cheryl40,

MAN-DLM-MAN (TOM496/7) are operated by a former Thomsonfly Boeing 767-304/ER (328Y / short haul). You'll find further aircraft information on our What Aircraft? guide. Aircraft are rotated all the time so it's too far beforehand to know the registration. Ask again the day before and we'll give you an indication of the aircraft registration to expect.

MAN-MLE-MAN (TOM188/9) are operated by a former First Choice Boeing 767-300/ER. You'll find further aircraft information on our What Aircraft? guide. TOM's 763 fleet aren't due to have winglets installed until winter. I suspect G-PJLO is due to operate the flight, one of the aircraft that's been having a few problems recently. They won't let it operate unless it's 100% servicable though. I'll check again tomorrow then I have more time.

SccS,

Seating is personal preference. It makes little difference really as all the seats offer the same seat pitch and facilities. It's your preference for the front of back really. The front cabin is a little more intimate as there are less rows and it's an almost enclosed section at the front of the aircraft whereas the rear is a bit more open plan. Meal information is on pages 137/8.

Your fligts are operated by a former First Choice Boeing 767-300/ER. You'll find further aircraft information on our What Aircraft? guide. Seating is personal preference. Row 1 is bulkhead. Even though it offers slightly more legroom, the bulkhead can prevent those with long legs streching them out fully. Row 9 doesn't have a window. The rest are all the same. The pairs by the windows are seats A/B or F/G.

Great thanks.

was just checking if there was anything i should avoid in those numbers.
BY-TOM-AMM-FCA has already suggested a few to stay away from, no overhead storage and cold spots ;) but this was when we were sitting at the rear. now we have choice of the other rows too i thought i would double check with the experts...

Thanks Darren thats great. Do you know if the premier class cabin is at the front of the aircraft?

Im 6ft 2" so i guess i would be better off not getting the bulkheads.

Best regards

That's correct. The premium cabin is at the front of the aircraft, rows 1-9. You'll find photos linked from the What Aircraft? guide.

thanks Darren. dare I ask what kind of problems the plane has been having if it is the one you suggested? we are prebooked into row 2 both ways, a and b outbound, f and g inbound, i assume row has windows is this correct? have any of the problems caused any issues you know of? i believe the plane we are on operates man- mombassa- man before our flight is this correct?

Hey mikeandrach,
Just to let you know one of the ex-FCA 767's is having problems with its Flaps. Not sure if it is the aircraft mentioned above as the crew couldn't recall which one it was but a ex-FCA 767 was taken of operating TOM197 on tuesday due to it being grounded. They replaced us with G-OBYE which is a short haul 767-300.

thanks for your rpely. when you say problems with flaps, doyou know what kid of problems?
i am a nervous flyer, the more i know the more relaxed i get though, would a plane be given an unloaded test flight after problems like these or would it be loaded with passenegers?
Reply
Mikeandrach,
They didn't specify the exact problem they just said when the preflight check were performed they noticed a problem the the flaps and took it out of service. They would not send passengers on a aircraft which had just been repaired they will do a range of tests without passengers before entering it back into passenger service.

this honestly is meant as a question not being rude, and i think you are probably right, but do you know for a fact they do test flights after such repairs or is it an educated assumption?

i used to work at lhr, nothing to do with planes but very rarely saw any test flight activity.

i have looked on the manchester airport website, there is a plane leaving for mombasa at 8pm, is this likely to be the one i am on to male tomorrow night? was told on here ages ago it could be, that makes it a really tight turnaround both in mombassa and man if it is

Its a bit of both really, I know from speaking to people who work for Airlines. If its a big repair then a test flight will need to be taken to make sure everything is now smooth. If its a small repair such as a light replacement or small part replacement its normal they will just test it on the ground.
It all depends on the type of problem and repair it went. If they can test it on the ground they will to save money and time if they can not test it on the ground they would fly it on a short test flight to see if its repaired.
Flights are known to have shorter turn around times these days so thats nothing to be worried about. Just think of Ryanair there turn around is 25-30 minutes I think Thomsons minimum turn around is a hour.

thanks again. i think the flight time to mombassa from man is 11 hours ish isn't it? in which case, if it leaves at 8pm tonight, it has 1 hour on the ground in total between now and then to get us off on time, so hopefully this isn't the same plane. is there any way of knowing which planeis on the mombasa flight today? could this confirm either way whether it will be the same plane as we are on?

does anyone know if the plane with the flap issue is now fixed? are there any alternative planes we could be on?

MikeandRach,
If you supply me with the Flight Number of the Mombassa flight ill have a look to see which aircraft operates the flight.
Also if you supply me with your flight number ill confirm what flight the aircraft operated last week before yours.
I know on Tuesdays G-OBYE is there stand by long haul aircraft not sure about Fridays however.
