The monastries on the Athos peninsular are spectacular. You need to take a boat trip to see them. You dont say where you are staying but the crossing from the Kassandra peninsular crosses open sea and can be choppy. If you drive to Ouranopolis on the Athos peninsular A trip from here is more sheltered. Thessaloniki is also worth a visit, dont miss the enormous covered market
