Hi, We are going to Lykia world next week, have tried to read as much as this thread as possible for tips. Anyone who I know that has recently returned from Turkey said the heat is unbearable - Im worried now that our very young children will not be able to cope in the heat.

I'm off to Turkey next week and yes it will be hot, however I usually find that by the end of August it does seem to tone down a little. Just make sure your children drink a lot of water, take a nap in the middle of the day and let them stay up later in the evening. The children's pools at Lykia World are lovely and there is shade so I'm sure your children will enjoy cooling off in there.
Have a great time.

Thank you JMK, We are staying in the village - are there specific blocks or rooms we should request, We booked a balcony family room with Thomas Cook but I read on a forum that - does not mean that is what we will get as LW descriptions of rooms are not the same as the agents. Will it be very very crowded - a mad scramble for tables in the restaurants. Any more tips will be much appreciated. Cant wait now :sun2 :sun2

It is some years since I went there and we had a family room in the village and it was fine. My only slight problem was that it was quite a long way from anything although my family are happy walking and there are little buses trundling around. We paid extra for a sea view and really the view was limited. We tried it for a change and it is the kind of holiday we normally avoid. However I must say we did enjoy it. The food was nice, setting beautiful and all the pools were lovely. We didn't find any problems with getting seats for meals and there are several restaurants. We went when there was a particularly severe heat wave and I did find it unbearable at times and the aircon struggled to cope but as I said at the end of August the heat does tend to tone down.

if the main marina restaurant is busy go into the residence one thats a lot quieter and we preferred it there , as we didnt have to queue so much and could always get a table.

we have just come back from turkey and it was very hot, but we coped, make sure the kids have hats on all the time and high factor cos sometimes a breeze can be deceiving

Someone posted on here that the rooms were 'tired' I was expecting modern rooms. Also, do you just get a taxi at the airport or is it best to prebook? Do you have to pay extra for the kids clubs / creche or is it included in the package?

i would pre book to save money, ive been quoted 35 one way from dalaman to lykia for oct for 3 of us, to give you an idea

kids clubs are free but some of the activities they do do have a charge if you want them to do it

How do you pre book? through the hotel? Will it be over crowded the last week of aug and the first week of sep?

Hi, we are also going to Lykia World next week, this thread has been great, I'm so glad I found it, and thank you so much to all who post for their very useful info :)
I have a few queries I was hoping someone would help me with:
1. We'll have an 8 week old baby with us when we go, does anyone know if any of the prams they lend out are suitable for babies, or would you recommend we take the one we have, ie, baby car seat that slots into a buggy so the baby can remain lying down.
2. Are there mosquito nets in the room? Do you recommend nets over beds or is it not that bad - just worried about the kids and baby.
3. My 2 year old has severe eczema, and is allergic to eggs, soya and milk, amongst other things. Does anyone know if the hotel have dairy free spreads for bread, as opposed to margarine/butter?
4. Are there any restrictions for bringing food into the country in your suitcase, ie, snacks, etc, as I was thinking of fetching some dairy free snacks and even some dairy free spread for my 2 year old in case we struggle over there to find stuff.
Many thanks in advance:)

Whats the dress code in the evening?

Anything goes these days apart from beachwear. When we first went about 10 years ago it was fairly smart at night. The Russians were there in large numbers then and they really went to town with the bling and designer stuff. I tend to go for either a cotton dress or skirt or maybe capri pants. My other half usually wears a shirt and smart shorts although if the mossies are bad he wears long trousers.
There will be theme nights so its worth taking something for the red/black night or black/white night, normally Sundays.

Thanks Bridd

Does anyone know will it be very busy over the next three weeks, will it be a mad scramble for sun beds and tables in the restaurants?

Don't worry - there are so many restaurants that if the Marina is full (unlikely) you can go to the Residence or Village.

Do I need to get Lira and Euros for this holiday?
Reply
You don't "need" either. If you read back through the previous posts on this thread you will find that Lykia World will accept just about any currency when you settle your bill.
We use a credit card for our final bill and just bring some English ten pound notes for ready cash. You can charge most things at Lykia World.
The prices are in euros but they will translate them into YTL or Sterling if you ask.
OUtside Lykia World you can use YTL, Sterling and probably Euros but I don't spend much time out and about so not sure.

Great - Im hoping not to spend too much either, but was a bit worried that we will end ups spending a lot due to it being so expensive there, with the bar and the trips etc. I could really do with spending a minimum amount.

I've always felt that you could go to Lykia World without spending any money and still have a great holiday. You get free wine, beer and soft drinks at mealtimes, which can last hours if you want them to. There are water dispensers all over, so you only need to buy drinks if you want something over and above. Same with snacks. The food is so plentiful that we hardly ever feel the need to buy anything to eat. Bar prices and prices of stuff like ice lollies are no more expensive than in the uk. There's so much to do that if you can't afford excursions you won't be bored staying onsite.

Am just back from Lykia World and as the thread has been so helpful to me wanted to see if i could add anything to help people out! First of all i can confirm for those who havn't been yet that it really is fabulous and you are in for a great holiday! The staff are amazing and cannot do enough to help, and it is a very well run and maintained hotel that deserves its excellent reputation. I went prepared to have to spend a huge amount based on some reviews, but have to say i completely agree with Bridd and you actually do not have to spend hardly anything extra at all if you don't want to, and i did meet someone who had not spent one penny in the complex by making the most of the included drinks etc and the water machines. The prices of the alcoholic drinks are expensive, although i have to say no more than i was paying in Tenerife last year. I did take my own duty free alcohol to add to my coke, but after a bottle of wine at the Marina each night found that i really didn't need anymore! We made a trip into town in the first few days (25 lira (£10) return hotel taxi)and stocked up on soft drinks to keep in the fridge in the room (we got the minibar emptied) and we still had loads left at the end of two weeks as something to eat and drink is nearly always available.
We did think the only things they should look at were the prices of the hotel excursions which were ridiculously expensive in comparison to the same trips offered in town which most people seemed to do. I would have loved to have done the hotel half day boat trip, but this was priced at 25 euros per person (roughly 60 lira). The same trip in town was on average £6 per person. We ended up not doing a trip but went into Olu Deniz for a day by taxi to the blue lagoon where you could hire out pedaloes for 20 lira (about £8) for one hour and float around the lagoon and admire the beauty of it.
The spa is also incredibly expensive, although i was lucky enough that for our last few days they reduced all treatment prices by 50% making them much more reasonable. I had a fantastic massage that would have been 65 euros for 32.50 (around 69 lira once converted on my bill) and that really finished off my holiday nicely! Hopefully they are catching on that people aren't prepared to pay these prices and i am sure their spa business would soar if they held more promotions like these.
A few other things that i hadn't realised they had were the bowling alley which was 7 euros per person, and they have a team of on site photographers who will take wonderful pictures (especially the sunset ones) which you can buy for 12 Turkish lira (about £5) each. You buy them from the photo shop with cash though and not on your room card like most other things.
I don't think i can add anything about the food that hasn't already been said-i can just confirm that it is amazing and they cater for just about everybody! I know a few people have said they found it all a bit samey after 2 weeks (my husband agreed with this), but i can honestly say i tried something different nearly every day as the choice is unbelieveable.
One other small thing that i thought was a great touch were the guest laundry rooms. There are two rooms (i thought the one in the residence was better down by the indoor pool) equipped with washing machines and driers which are free for guests to use, you just need to take you own liquid or powder.
Overall you really havn't got to worry about spending loads as you just don't need to. Our bill was only 480 lira (around £220) for 2 weeks and that included me using the residence gym about 6 times at 3 euros a time, 2 games of bowling for our son and a few games room tokens, my massage, a few extra beers and a couple of cocktails, cokes whenever we liked and the odd ice cream as well as at least 2 large bottles of water a day.
