gobofraggle,
The Thomson Premium service will not be removed from any flights next year. There has been no plans mentioned to do this and Thomson uses the seats to make that extra bit of money on flights. As far as I am aware there is no changes to the premium class cabins and if there were they would A. Provide an Alternative or B) Refund the premium passengers.

Hi I am travelling to Cuba on 2nd October. Two weeks ago I decided to add seat choice to my booking, well first of all I talked to the dept who deal with pre booking seats and they dealt with my request before putting me through to a different dept to select my seats. The pre booked seats were paid for by debit card and they sent me an email confirmation immediatley. The chap in the next dept said that the booking system was showing the booking charge would be lower if I paid with a credit card? so ok I went along with this. He gave me seats 15a and 15b - yes I was happy with that. He also said he would email me the confirmation and now 2 weeks later I am still waiting for it. My credit card has been charged, but despite sending two emails and telephoning twice I still have no confirmation. My tickets arrived 2 days ago and neither the seats together or the seat choice is showing on them. Any Ideas please, I would hate to get to Manchester and not have the seats I have paid for. Thanks in advance

carole2312,
If I were in your shoes, I would ring Thomson back up and ask for a confirmation letter or email just to make sure the seats are booked. I am sure if you ring up they will confirm this for you and if there is a problem get it sorted for you. Its best to get it sorted before you fly and since seats are pre assigned the day before the flights its best to do it ASAP.
Just give them a quick call and they should sort it all for you.

Hi all,

This is a question for anybody who has flown long haul with First Choice / Thomson.

We can't decide whether to book Premium Upgrade for a possibly forthcoming holiday to Aruba next July. Seems a lot of money (£780 for 3) Is it really worth the extra or should we stick with Economy.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Pat

Pat,
The economy service is excellent on the airline, the leg room is more than adequate for anyone to sit in for that length of time and the only benefits you losing really are free drinks and the upgrade IFE which you can buy for £5 anyway. £780 seems too much money for what you will get for it and this isn't a lot.
I believe you should only consider this service if you are travelling with any tall people in your family or you plan on drinking the entire supply of liquids on the flight.

The other difference is Economy will either be set out 2-4-2 on ex-TOM 767's or 2-3-2 on the ex-FCA 767's.

Like I said I don't think its worth that amount of money and would keep it for extra spends.

Hi Z.J.C.,

Many thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

e have only flown as far as Egypt, and up until this year (managed to booked exit seats) have always felt so uncomfortable and cramped, especially when the person in front decides to put their seat back, making me feel chlostrophobic!

Are the seats on long haul in Economy more comfortable than flying short haul plus? Also, if we did decide to fly premium, what would be the seat configuration?

Thanks again.

Hello,

Flying out from Manchester to Palma Mallorca on 17th October. What type of aircraft is TOM2644 please?
Reply
sebbyseb,
Flight TOM2644 will be operated on an ex-FCA Airbus A321 aircraft. Seating is 3-3 on the aircraft and more information can be found on the What Aircraft Guide

Premium seating is a contentious issue at the moment with the enormous increase in APD, Premium Economy will be the taxed the same as BA or Qantas First class costing in excess of £6000

I have been to a business review a few months ago and it has been suggested the future of premium economy may end up being no more than extra legroom service to avoid the tax. Several options are being looked at by the company, this is one they shared with us. To say PE will be kept or removed is too premature. No decision has been made, unless the tax is scrapped, delayed or amended then Premium Economy will not be the same as what we are used to.

According to this article:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/air-passenger-duty/5576597/APD-Passenger-tax-will-be-a-disaster-for-the-Caribbean.html

it is £150 duty per person for a premium cabin and £75 duty per person for the normal cabin.

Incidentally, we're travelling to Cuba in May with Thomson and booked our premium seats at a cost of £200 per person return.

Would such an increase of duty be charged to me or given the fact that I already have booked these seats mean that this well published increase of duty already has been calculated in this price?

Just been reading up on this APD and apparently it is just the UK and Ireland that impose such tax.

The Dutch used to but abolished it.

Rip off Britain yet again.

Environmental concerns my backside

Markj,
I would imagine if you have already paid they can not charge you anymore as its not fair. Its like you booking a holiday at say £3000 pounds and they ring you up next week to say its gone up to £3300 and you have to pay extra it wouldn't be fair trading.

I won't hold my breath. Doesn't it say somewhere in the Ts and Cs that they can change the price due to an increase forced by the Government?

Would be a bit naughty though if they did as when I booked the holiday, the announcement of the increase of APD was already made.

Don't fancy taking them to court again!

i'm not blonde but ask some silly questions and here is one of them , i alway thought planes were like buses, take you to a country drop you off and bring you back home . i was surprised when somebody asked a question about where the plane they were booked on was coming from . I am now going to ask where flight TOM394 going to Tunisia from Bristol on 30.10.09 came from , and the same for the return flight TOM395 Tunisia to Bristol 01/11/09.

No offence to blonde people your great

I think my post must have been overlooked so better luck this time. I'm flying to Holguin, Cuba with Thomson Airways on TOM 094 on Monday September 21st from LGW returning on Monday October 5th on TOM 095. Can you tell me if they are still using the ex Thomson Boeing 767's or have they reverted back to the ex First Choice 767's? I'm assuming, as it is TOM and not ToM, that it will be an ex Thomson aircraft. Can you confirm this please?

songbid,

Your Flight Will Be Operated By An ex First Choice Boeing 767-300/ER/.

They Are Not Using The "TOM" and "ToM" System Anymore
