The choice between premium economy or economy is always going to be a personal one. On our flight we had wider seats (2-3-2 configuration ) in premium instead of 2-4-2 seating configuration in economy. We had more legroom and larger IFE screens + all the other goodies. The wider seats with more legroom is what persuaded us into spending the extra, (my son and I are wide bodied like the aircraft !) . That will always be the case for us. Other travellers who are not too tall or of normal width may consider the price too high. They may well be comfortable in economy . We would not. I have paid nearly £500 in the past for premium economy with Virgin against £200 with Thompson and the Virgin was not THAT much better. Thompson premium economy I think represents very ggod value for what I want. I hope this helps. Enjoy!

You Would Have Been On An ex Thomsonfly Aircraft That Have The 2-4-2 Seating In Economy, However The ex First Choice Aircraft Have 2-3-2 Seating Through Out.

Hi,
Hi sebbyseb ...
True. But if we had been in economy rather than premium we would have had the 2-4-2 configuration and been uncomfortably squashed. I have flown in a BA Boeing 777 with configuration of 3-4-3 (like a 747) . Boy , was that flight (Gatwick - Tampa) the worst of all! After that I would pay ALMOST anything for comfort. As long as Thomson carry on with premium economy they will still be my first choice. (no pun intended!)
chrissfhl.
they will still be my first choice. (no pun intended!)
Its Funny Actually, On The ex First Choice Boeing 757 I Was On Last (G-OOBA) They Had Put Black Tape Over The Writing On The Back Of The Seat That Said "That's Why Were First Choice". Not That It Was Much Good As People Had Obiously Pulled The Tape Off Most Of The Seats
Your Post Just Reminded Me Of It

Thanks for your input, very much appreciated.
Have spoken to many people who have told me that the premium upgrade isn't really worth the money, but having never travelled long haul (only short haul plus - 5.1/2 hr) I don't really relish the thought of travelling 9/10 hours in economy, especially with narrower seats than premium.
Just have to get my head around paying £780 for premium LOL!!
Regards,
Pat
It depends on what you like out of a flight, to say if its worth it. The main cabin, whilst comfy by general long haul standards can get very busy and even though you can pop your head in the galley for drinks etc any time the service is very much dictated by they crew, through no fault of their own(200 people/5crew) Premium is a lot quieter, relaxed- generally no screaming kids, service on demand, regular drinks runs additional services. Its a nice way to start the holiday. For me I won't travel economy for those reasons(noisy kids, being told when to eat, waiting ages for a drink etc..)
Having said that, Aruba is a VERY expensive island if you've not been there before £780 would go a long way, a good night out with no food is $100(ok a very good night out)
I took the whole family,( me, two sons, son's partner, grand-daughter ). It cost me £1000 to uograde. (it was my treat). I still think it was worth it. It set up and rounded off the holiday for all concerned, but I won't be paying for them again ( unless the lottery treats me well!). Enjoy yourself whatever you decide.

I think I have moreorless decided on opting for the Premium Upgrade, will just have to save that bit harder LOL!
Thanks again,
Pat
The only thing i would recommend if you do go premium is that you book your seat numbers we booked seats together and my wife sat behind me on both out and return, i do have an ongoing case but they say seats together is, and i quote, if you are not seperated by a third party!!! we are booking our seat numbers next year in econ but by the windows.
By the way we did have a crying baby in premium but the service is better.
Good luck
Roger
I was wondering if I could ask you a quick question. Looking on the Logs for TOM196 last tuesday it was operated on a Boeing 737-500(G-BVKB) is this is mix up in the logs or did Thomson really send them out on a 737-500 with a refuelling stop somewhere?

Slightly off subject is everyone receiving tickets in good time or are Thomson still playing up with delivery, they still appear to be giving the same old excuses, as has been the case over the past few years, about lost in post, printer broken etc etc, but will print off another set, only to say at the last minute you can pick them up at the airport.

I think your question is in the wrong thread.
Can anyone help? I am traveling to Tenerife on 3rd Oct Gatwick to Tenerife South, Flight no TOM 4563 and return flight Tom 4563. Can you tell me what aircraft will be used and also if there is IFE on those flight number or do I need a good book and my own music to keep me entertained??
Can you pool hold luggage ? For instance for a couple travelling, would it matter if one case weighed 22kg and the other 17kg (total 38kg) I know that no single item can weigh more than 23kg .
The brochure states that pooling is not allowed but the website states it is allowed. Does anyone know the definitive answer ?
Incidentally I spent over an hour on the phone trying to book seats, only to be told , 1st, I would have to start the whole phone process again to book 'Seats together' and then secondly I would only be able to book seats in the back 5 rows unless we also booked a meal and after that, again starting the whole phone process again and only then we would we able to book seats near the front of the aircraft. The total cost was horrendous
I might have been willing to do all that as husband has mild claustrophbia. He is fine on the plane but tends to panic a bit when it takes ages to get off as his inhalor doesn't seem to work on the plane, but the thought of spending another 3 hours going through 3 different section at approx. 1 hour each time really puts me off.
1. To book seats together
2. to book a meal
3. To reserve seats.
Why can't one Customer Advisor deal with all these aspects?
It could be me after a long day but I can not seem to find any flights into Tenerife on the 3rd October and with that flight code.
However I have a flight on the 2nd October ( Friday) With that flight code which will be operated on a Boeing 757-200 aircraft which will have IFE provided by screens above the aisle way.
Seats are the 3-3 standard.

Sorry this is only a part reply but I have to dash out in a second, the pooling luggage rule; this was allowed on our recent package holiday to Cancun with Thomson Airways. 15 of us all pooled our suite cases together and no questions were asked. However with you booking flight only I would check this up further but I would imagine it too be the same.
Secondly, Thomsons Customer Service isn't the best so I would just keep trying there will be the odd few people in the call centre who really do want to help you.
Best times to try are around 10AM.
Hope I have helped,
Z.J.C
Sorry it's not you it is me {the flight is on the 2nd Oct} Thank you for your quick response and for the information.
Not too worried about the flight out but getting back at 1.25 am is going to make it a long day so any distraction to keep me awake will help
Thanks again
