thanks all. In the end we decided to withdraw cash from the cash machine. Easiest all round. At least we will know for next year. Despite the weather we have had, we are having a great time

Me and gannet are just back from Akyaka and missing it already. It is such a lovely, peaceful place and so reasonable! I think I have left a bit of my heart there. We will definitely go back next year.

We stayed at the Tomsan Apartments which were lovely - a bit old fashioned but spotlessly clean and only a 10 minute walk down the hill to the village and beach.

We ate at a variety of places. The first night we had fish and bread at the boats on the river which cost us 8 Lira including a couple of soft drinks.

We also ate at the Turkish cafe just along from Ramons which had great Turkish food and was mostly populated by Turks. Manti, soup, pancakes and something which was potato, meat and yoghurt (can't remember the name).

Just round the corner from there was another place we ate at which was Silah - the food was good and the staff were very friendly.

Another restaurant (again, can't remember the name) was the one at the bottom of the hill on the left hand side just before you go through the car park to the river boats. Again, good food but they added a few extras to the bill.

The best place we ate was a very small place called Kirmizi Mutfak which is just opposite the Dia (?) supermarket. The lady who owns it is a fantastic cook, the menu was limited to 2 kinds of shish, kofte, sometimes soup and the most fantastic "special olive oil" dishes which were basically meze and one kind of dessert which were tiny cakes soaked in syrup and served with ice-cream. The Turkish coffee was also excellent. We had a big meze plate to start, then a shish each, dessert each, coffee each, a bottle of water and a fanta and it came to 34 Lira which is excellent value for such fantastic food. There was a lovely Irish lady called Moira who was working there which made it a bit easier to understand the wide selection of the meze dishes.

I would wholeheartedly recommend anyone to try this restaurant. It will be the first place we go to when we go back next year.

We had a couple of boat trips which were 20 Lira per person and we walked to Cinar beach a few times - it took us about 45 minutes or so at a fairly leisurely place. There is a little restaurant there where you can get drinks and lunch, again not very expensive.

We also went into Mugla a couple of times for the market which is amazing, so much fresh fruit and vegetables and doesn't have as many "touristy" stalls selling fakes.

We don't drink much so couldn't tell you how much wine and spirits were but Efes was about 3.50 for a large one or a dark one and fanta was anything from 1-2.5 lira per can.

The only problem we had was the travellers cheques which we had never given a thought to beforehand.

I think in total we spent about £400 in the two weeks we were there but like I said, we don't drink so if you were partial to a beer or six, it could get quite expensive.

We will be back :)

mrs gannet glad you had a fab holiday and love akyaka as much as we do, my friends came with us last year and couldnt afford it this year but she said to me the other day if cheap flights come out to let them know as they want to come back they also stayed at the tomsam apts run by muammer, not sure if ive spelt his name right lol. we want to go back next summer too

i know the restaurant you mean that charged extra its the old guitar restaurant ive forgotten its name, but it has a little water display inside , we ate in there once and got ripped off with the exchange rate so never went back lol .

did you eat in the deniz restaurant or feron restaurant, we enjoyed meals at both these places although a bit more touristy

how does akyaka compare to turunc and kalkan for you. i havent been to kalkan but ive been to turunc which i thought was nice but the beach and scenery not as nice as akyaka in my opinion

my parents always eat at the fish boat restaurants and say what good value they are. there was a new restaurant at the top which was so cheap opposite the sok supermarket, fresh home made bread free absolutely yummy, pizzas 5 lira, hot chicken salads 5 lira so cheap , its called ozcan i think, we went into the kitchens to watch them make the bread lol

The Tomsan are run by Muammer's sister Durzen - he seems to take care of the Okalyptus over the road.

We didn't eat at the Deniz or the Feron, they didn't seem to be our type of place somehow. We did walk up to the top of the village one day but didn't eat up there. I know which restaurant you mean though.

Akyaka is the nicest place we have been to so far although Kalkan is a close second (only for the kitchen restaurants!). I wouldn't go back to Turunc, it was lovely but the trip over the mountain is just too much for me.

Hi.

"the one at the bottom of the hill on the left hand side just before you go through the car park to the river boats. Again, good food but they added a few extras to the bill."

I think that's the Maydonaz. If so we also had an inflated bill there recently and so we didn't go back.

Generally I've found the restaurants in Akyaka to be very good.

Cheers.
