I have not been on the destiny, but have been on a med cruise. With regard to the type of cabin, it's a personal thing I guess I had an outside cabin I felt that as I was on a cruise I wanted to look out the window and look at the sea and at the different places that we docked in, as for being quieter not sure about that.
Hubby smoking you should be able to purchase cigs at the airport in the UK when you go through passport control, and I am told these are cheaper than in the shops (sorry don't know prices am not a smoker). I doubt if hubby will be allowed to smoke in the cabin, this is normally reserved for areas above deck, but you will need to check with Thomson.
As for currency on board normally cruises have a cash free system, which means whenyou go on board you given them details of your chosen credit/debit card and they give you an on board swipe card which you use for all purchases on the ship. At the end of the voyage your bill will be settled automatically with the details that you first presented them with. I think you can also opt to pay cash to settle at the end of the voyage but still not pay cash during the trip.

US $ are accepted all over the Caribbean. Have plenty of small bills for tips, taxis,snacks etc.
we start with the inside and then look for where the value is above this.
A low deck ocean view will just be a bit of light.
there s nothing to see at sea in port you could be looking at a harbour wall.
Higher up ten you are into better views and balconies which often are slightly bigger cabins.
If I can get on a ship for £300pw I am not paying another £100 for a window and then another £100 for a balcony without good reason, A fjords or Alaska trip where there is a lot to see it will be worth paying extra, a port intesnsive cruise with lng port days the cabin will hardly be used.
We do go up into suites on NCL if the price is right but then there are a lot of extras.
With any cabin grade location can be imprortant especialy if you go to a bigger ships.
we once were forward on a princess ship 300 paces to get tot he rear elevators which we did a lot, never again.
we like aft(rear facing) if balcony, near elevators is good check whats close to each of the elevators midships reduces walking.
Watch out for potential noise generators, under the gym or a kitchen or where the deck chairs are all can be noisy.
Low down and front you have bow thrusters, and near the door the pilot uses can be very disturbing on port days.

It is a matter of choice and how you want to spend your money some people like to have the top grade cabins, but we now ourselves go for inside and find we then are able to cruise more often
We have had inside on both the Fjords and Alaska cruises just spent a lot more time on deck
We had been advised that we would regret taking an inside on our Alaska trip in June but decided to go ahead with it as we wanted to add on a week in New york and 3 days in Seattle. It was fine, we actually had great fun on deck with our fellow cruisers the day we sailed down the glacier all wrapped in our blankets we would have missed the camaraderie, it would have been just the two of us sitting on our ballcony

Could not agree more....Prindy has said it all, and we cruise more often that way!
I booked an outside cabin for my first cruise. I can get nauseated just saying the word,so I was expecting to feel seasick and I reasoned that if I was bothered by the motion I could at least look out the window and get my bearings so I wouldn't feel dizzy.... I had NO problems however.
Next time I booked a balcony, but was hardly ever on it, there is so much to do on the ship and you mainly cruise at night, so not much to see. On sea days there are usually so many activities going on you don't want to miss anything. Since then we always book inside rooms. WE sleep and shower and that's about it for our occupancy of the room, not worth paying the extra. As far as insides being quieter, check your location, look to see what is above/below around you that could create noise and choose accordingly. Take a clock with illuminated face, it will give you just enough light , otherwise the rooms are pitch black.

You will be able to buy 200 packs of cigs on board Destiny when in the Caribbean at sea, duty free. Cabins below delux be they inside or out are all about the same size, very small, but delux and above are very expensive but we find them worth the extra even though you are not in them for long periods. You must be going on the transatlantic so its just a matter of choice i dont think i could be in an inside for that long but you could always leave the bathroom light on.
We did Caribbean in March and have booked again for next year you will have a great time whichever cabin you are in.

If you fly Man to Lisbon you won't be able to buy cigs at Manchester as Lisbon is in EU.
As Destiny is sailing outside EU you will be able to guy cigs duty free on ship once its at sea.
Duty free shops only open when sailing.
If you want some when you get to ship go ashore in Lisbon + buy from Tabac shop.

Inside - may be smaller, no view, not pleasant if you are ill and have to be confined to your cabin, cheapest option so if you just want a bed for a few hours this is the preferred choice.
Outside, more expensive, sometimes larger, you can see what's going on, balcony sometimes an option and useful if you want time alone to sit and watch the world go by or watch as you dock etc etc.
No reason why an internal cabin should be quieter, this depends on which deck and where on that deck the cabin is located.
