Hi

I'm flying out of Manchester on the 31st jan 2010 to Cancun. Any idea whether the plane will be an Ex first choice or an ex Thomson 767?

Imbrugliasboy,

Please include flight numbers when you can as there are sometimes multiple flights. MAN-CUN-MAN (TOM144/5) are currently operated by a former Thomsonfly Boeing 767-304/ER. You'll find further aircraft information on our What Aircraft? guide (link on my signature below).

Thanks Darren for your swift reply, which planes are nicer the Ex Thomsonfly or the Ex First Choice??

Seanpritlove,

It's personal preference really. I prefer the 2-3-2 configuration (more elbow room) and colour scheme on the ex-FCA aircraft, it's light and airy. The ex-TOM's at 2-4-2 don't feel quite as spaciaous and the dark blue colour scheme is a bit bland. Seat pitch in economy is the same though. They both offer a nice inflight experience however.

Thats good it's a good inflight experience and the 33'' legroom is very appealing especially on a long flight! The 31'' you get with Virgin is ok with my me when I've flown with them so the extra 2'' will be very much appreciated!

Was planning to go to Dom Rep next March 21st staying in La Romana - have just gone on to both Thomson and First Choice sites and the holidays for that date have now vanished!
Is this because the flight is now full or because Thomson have cancelled/rescheduled?? Seems strange as a couple of days ago there was still availability for Premium and also extra leg room seats in standard.
Anyone in the know ? :cry

brewerdave,

Looking at the flight schedule, there isn't a Thomson Airways flight showing for 21st March 2010 from any UK airport. Flights to LRM are on an ad-hoc basis this winter.

Darren, strange cos they deffo were showing it as Sunday flight until day before yesterday on both web sites; have also just looked in the Thomson brochure I picked up a couple of months ago - its listed as a regular Sunday flight - LGW - La Romana.
My wife will go spare tonite when I tell her its vanished - she told me to book a couple of weeks ago but I've been waiting for a better price ....... :cry :cry

brewerdave,

Can you not do other dates? There are flights on selected dates through the season. I think the reason for the ad-hoc basis to the flights is because some are cruise charters.

Darren , thanks for help ;I noticed comment about cruises in brochure - maybe thats why flight is full? Unfortunately little flexibility over dates , plus or minus 2 days at best !!! May have to go to Puerto Plata instead, flights on 22nd March.
Or possibly somewhere totally different. Prices for other Carib destinations are horrendous however. Not looking forward to wife coming home from work :whoops

The flight I wanted is still available - but only if I want to book a cruise!!! :cry

Thanks to all for your help prior to our recent Goa trip.A brief report.

Left MAN 23rd November on an ex First Choice 767.The aircraft has not yet been re-branded nor had its winglets fitted and if I am to be honest is looking a bit tired.

We were in the premium cabin and I cannot praise the excellent customer service highly enough. Also excellent IFE and good food.

A recent discussion took place about on time departures and heres my take on it.We pushed back from the gate at about 1520 hrs. After taxiing and waiting for our take off slot we took of at 1543.Not sure how our take off time would have been logged.

The return flight was an 0830 take off so the crew would have been up very early. They then had to do a ten and a half hour flight with some rest during it.I honestly do not know how they could get any rest at all. There were a few empty seats in premium and this is where the crew took there so called rest. Not sure if they keep a few free just for this purpose.

I can honestly take my hat off to them for the job they do on these long flights.

Landed on time in Manchester.

Anyone planning a Goa trip this year should seriously consider this flight.

Well done Thomson despite and ageing aircraft the product on offer is excellent.
