Just got from a very enjoyable hot week, and appart from the bread issue all was fine.
whats the deal with the bread out there, We were on a tightish budget as is now expensisve for us poor english! so thought a few days of toast for breakfast and sandwichs for lunch would save us a few euros.
I spent e3.50 on a loaf of kingsmill as spanish, infact any loafs of bread eleswhere in the world is poor IMO.
So made some toasted chees sandwiches for lunch all good, next morning went to do some toast, and thick green mould everywhere? WTF, checked the date 14th oct 09????? and the 14th oct 2010?
So dug the recipt out and when to the supermarket, where me speaking no spanish, didnt get me very far! no idea what the deal was, checked the other bread on the shelf and that was all the same 14th oct
So 3.50 wasted!
I ten to buy there own brand bread which is the Bimbo one. Always been fresh and makes good sarnies and toast.
It's probably been frozen. I always buy the local bread, it's a fraction of the price.
We always buy the local rolls for sandwiches - really good. Far better than in this country, in my opinion.
Can't really beat a freshly baked baguette in my opinion, and the local baker we get ours from is reasonably priced and perfect in taste, we have also bought sliced farmhouse type loaf made by bimbo which is probably the "Allied Bakeries" of Lanzarote?? and this was more than you would pay in the UK but good quality. Obviously locally produced goods are sensibly priced and usually cheaper than UK equivalents, but branded goods that we are used to seeing on UK shelves are going to be expensive because they are imported.
I never buy their fresh milk , i get the UHT cartons , the fresh milk goes off too quickly probably because of the heat and because its probably imported aswell, as i've never seen a cow wandering around the volcanic fields.
