Valleylady

I am so sorry your holiday was spoilt by what you found out, I did try to warn you and put you off staying out near the homes because I thought the child you was sponsoring would not even be there but I am pleased you have seen for yourself what a con they are

The name can't be mentioned or any real reference be made about them on the forum for legal implications, so I would suggest you contact Valleylady direct to see if she wants to add to what she has posted

Valleylady was not referring to the Candolim boys home or any other children's charity in Goa, just the charity she supported, trusted and thought was a good one and now has second thoughts about but suggested that if your are sponsoring anywhere to make sure you are not doing more harm than good which it sounds like you have done.

Valleylady, Robert and Carol please write to the Chair of the Trustees in the UK about your complaint, concerns or worries as that is the only way to start getting things put right, you should be able to find the name and address on their paper work but if you can't PM me and I will try to find it out for you or just write to the charity commission direct

Please do it, as you can't just turn your back on it

hi irishcoleen, gemma ,glad i met you at the meets,as you know all 3 of us had a chat at the meet when i explained what had happened,i still have your numbers and hopefully will meet up with you next time,

meagin,,,yes i do have the email and phone number of the uk offices,i would like to say that it has taken from our return to now to pluck up enough courage to say anything ,but after talking it over between ourselves and friends who had sent lots of items over for the children,we decided that ,as you said we cant turn our backs on it ,
i would also say that we DO NOT beleive that any of these children are harmed or ill treated in any way. in fact they were all looking quite happy and cheerful,it is just our personal expierience and that of the 2 friends who visted with us that we are not happy with.

Sorry about your experience Valleylady. I know you made a lot of sacrifices in order to take the things out with you. I agree with IC about Candolim Boys Home, we visit every year as we did this year. We have to be careful too about where we take things as my sister gets clothes, footballs etc from Puma whom she works for and under no circumstances are they to be sold off but we know the boys get them at Candolim Boys Home as we are allowed to give them out ourselves and the boys remember us. I agree also you can see the improvements that are made when you visit each year and the boys are very happy there. Will try and put a photo on if I can manage to find out how to do it! Hope to meet up with you next year as I think we are going at the same time.

Many years ago we also went to this particular orphanage to do our bit and we weren't impressed by the actions of the staff that were there, I think they took most of the stuff we donated. We have heard many rumours over the years, not just from tourists but the local Goans too, some rumours were quite unsavoury - they can't all be wrong. :que

Valleylady, you tried, don't be put off by your experience as there are many other organisations in goa that will be only too pleased to accept your help. :)

It was nice to meet you in December and maybe I will catch up with you again some time. :tup

:cheers would just to say thanks to everyone who has commented on my post, and for the pm,s,i would just like to say that although we are dissapionted with what we discovered that in no way are we saying that these children are ill treated.abused or harmed in anyway,i wish to get that piont across,in fact they were quite happy and cheerful and looked well,it is just our personal experience and observance of things and that of the friends who came with us :tup so sorry that lots of you had simular experiences as ourselves.

Hi Valleylady we are there for 3 weeks from the 10th Dec so will hopefully see you at the met ups. Hopefully we have 3 more people coming out with us next time - their first visit and 2 of them are men who obviously don't take as much luggage as us ladies - so we will have plenty of room to take even more out next time. Glad you enjoyed your holiday anyway despite the upsets.

Hi valeylady
Sorry to hear of your experience with this charity. It is not nice when you find out that your generosity is being misappropriated.

Have pmd you

We have friend that donate to this charity but I have always had my suspicions about their credibility.
If anyone has more info on them please let me know. I don't want them to support a bogus charity.

this was our first visit to GOA,, only went to meet up with,
valleylady, to meet the child. valleylady had sponsered for 1 year,, the valleylady,, had been wrighting & sending gift, + photo's of her self,
so there sponsered child, would know who they are when they got goa, to meet,, there sponsered girl... the poor girl didnt know who they was,,, ive have took photo's of the meeting,, i felt like crying for my friend, valleylady,xx
met the founder of the charity,, first thing she said was can u take me 20 kilos,, of scarves back to uk,,,
not thank you for sponsering the child, or bringing all our luggage allowance for the children,,
so we started asking questions,,,, who is opening the mail,, who is replying,,,
it goes to head office???? thats in UK.??
we visited the orphanage,, with valleylady, & took 75 kilos of clothes & bubbles, tooth brushes paste, exc,, for the children,,took photo's of the children enjoying the bubbles,& baloons,
then we noticed all the clothing we took,,, was in a corner,,
valleylady took persanall gifts to her sponserd child ,for her birthday & christmas,, she wasent allowed them,, as the other children will bully her,,
we was shown the bed room.. 4 walls, & roof,, we asked were the children sleep,, on a mat on the floor,, about 50 children in a room 30 ft - 10ft, no locker's. no nothing,, just 4 walls,, & a mat.
BUT,,,we never saw a child under 3,, or we never saw a dissabled child,,
we saw poorer children on the street',
& after speaking to the local goan prople,,who tell us the clothes the farangs bring ober got to market,,
children go home to mumbai,, in the winter,, when the tourist have gone home,,
met a lady tourist , who is in goa for 1 year,, she wanted to do work free for the charity,, was told she can only do work with the children is she sponsers a child,,
my hubby,, said,, not only does the founder want ya bread £,, she wants ya dripping as well,,
be aware.. go visit for your-self,
