Where you hire from is a factor also. Barcelona airport and the Costa Brava area I have found is a lot dearer than other Costas.
The price you paid in Lanzarote is good for the size of vehicle.
Car hire from Malaga airport used to be good. But as I have said prices have rocketed.
Just have a good search other sites. But I dont think there will be a significant difference in prices.
£731 for a weeks rental of a fiat scudo !! My flights are cheaper! They hire companies are taking us for a ride. Even the shuttle bus from Malaga to nerja works out at £480ish pounds for 4 adults 1 2yr old and a 9 month old. I'm begining to think flying to Malaga is a bad idea but it's to late now. Fingers crossed the prices sort themselves out for 15 weeks time but I can't see it.
In lanzarote we paid €280 for a simillar car so that's why I thought £500-£600 was very steep!
Any help would be gratefully recieved.
Thanks,
bob
Hi Bob ... as you may know, there were car hire availability problems in Europe last year which started in June and lasted throughout the peak holiday period (details on previous page), resulting in fleet shortages in many parts of Spain. There are already predictions within the rental industry of a repeat situation this year and so that is the risk you take if you delay making a booking in the hope of prices coming down.

I reserved a ford transit Van yesterday but was phoned today to be told non were available, instead got a mercedes vito for £20 extra with cargest.es via suncar. Was impressed they phoned to tell me and recieved an e-mail today with the 'voucher' for collection. So far so good, I believe at the airport I will be driven to the office up the road for collection. No problem there as I can do this while the luggage is coming through.

Bob ... if you are leaving others behind at baggage reclaim while you go off for the car, make sure that the baggage ID tags are not attached to your passport, as you would obviously not be able to return to baggage reclaim in the event of any problems.

Thanks David.
It's the first time we have hired a car in mainland Spain (Malaga Airport for a week, 22nd May) and what appalls me is the way
most of the companies want to rip you off by charging for a full tank of petrol. We have been charged €75 for a tank for a Corsa! What a rip off. We have been able to find a company, Helle Hollis which refunds the money to your card if you return the car full so we will do this.
I would agree that the hire charges are exorbitant. Last year in Fuerteventura we paid €97 for a week. This year in Malaga, €250 inc petrol. Never had this bother in Greece!!
Going to Valencia in September and it seems like the same petrol scam is being worked there, pay for a full tank and return empty. Trouble is I know we wont use more than half a tank.
Anyway have great holidays everyone,
Cheers, Jean
Any help on the petrol situation would help me to as we have hired a car for two weeks time.
Has anyone got any voucher codes off of car hire or can recommend a reasonable website please? I did book with Suncars for a really cheap price that sounded too good to be true for 7 days in August. Their website says it can take up to 3 days to confirm but it actually took them 8 days to e-mail me & tell me they couldn't honour my booking as they couldn't find a car to mtach the 1 I'd booked. I called them and asked them what they had to offer me & they said I would have to book via the website again as they are a broker & once they get your order they then shop around to try & get what you have requested so don't think I'll chance requesting another 1 & having to wait another 8 days.
In reply to my earlier posting we have just returned from Nerja and our car hire with Helle Hollis. I have no hesitation in recommending them. They pick you up from an underground bit outside arrivals (Malaga Airport) and take you to their depot 800 metres away. The process of doing the paperwork was pretty quick as they have all your details from the internet booking. We had a four door Corsa which was quite new and in great condition. On return we filled up the tank not far from the airport and returned to their depot where the petrol charge was refunded to our credit card straight away. We then were taken by bus to the terminal and dropped off right outside the doors to departures. This we thought was a lot easier than having to find our way to the right car park at the airport.
We did take out full insurance for tyres, excess and everything so it did make it quite expensive (an extra €56) but if you can get a homeowners code from someone you get a discount and the fast-track lane. I used code H4589 which someone on Trip Advisor gave me. You can use it as well.
Cheers, Jean
