Sorry typing error ( or brain error) have insurance that covers Tandem Pargliding , this includes not only myself but also my wife! however there is no chance of her having a go, going into a cool swimming pool is her idea of dangerous sports! :yikes

Hi Groovybaby,

I think you need to be of average weight to go paragliding. If your friend's wife is over 20 stone she's at risk of breaking an ankle or leg when landing - and supposing she fell on someone?! They land very close to the beach! I saw a paraglider oncle land in the water (quite a way out he was too) so imagine if she landed where all the swimmers were! That sort of weight thundering down on you could cause serious injury.

There are definitely weight restrictions which apply to those type of sports - parachuting, parascending, paragliding. Both my daughter and I were weighed before we did skydives, and she was also weighed before she went parascending in Spain. There are usually notices telling you what the maximum weight limit is - but most reputable places will weigh you to check first before they allow you to take part. Safety should be paramount, after all.

Well i finally plucked up enough courage to book with Ikarus, charged £60.00, Best thing i have ever done in my life, it was a bit hairy going up the mountain in the jeep but as there was a 7 year boy ( i am 60 next month ) and his father both jumping i could not wimp out! I got some fantastic pictures and memories i will never forget.if it did not take 45 mins. to go back up the mountain i would have done it again straight away.
If my wife had seen the article in the paper on Saturday ( the morning we arrived home ) about the pensioner stuck on the mountain after crashing she probably would not have let me do it! :yikes

I've just got insurance with Columbus Direct that will cover me and my partner for paragliding and it was very resonably priced. I want to book before we go, does anyone know the best time of day to do it?

Hi Hunter, I think my husband was told the 11.00 am flight had the best chance of a long flight due to thermal activity. He wanted to stay up as long as possible! He was up for about 50 mins. I think the morning ones are better for photos as it is clearer and the sunset ones are the quickest flights and the 3.00 pm ones are very warm in mid summer.

Hopefully an expert will come along and correct me if I am wrong (never having done it before :yikes )

They " jump" five times a day approx. depending on the weather, early in the morning, before and after lunch, afternoon and late afternoon i think, i met them at 13.15, travelled up the mountain which takes about 45 mins. and then it took about 25-30 mins to decsend. they are very carefull as i could not go the day i wanted to as it was to windy however the cloud is not a problem ( i suppose only if it is light cloud ) as the guy said aslong as they could get above it for take off it would be ok. As it happened we took off above the cloud which was breathtaking and as we passed thru it got great pictures of the beach etc. to be honest pictures taken of the ground from 6000ft would not be that good.

Good luck with your flight, i can promise you it will be the best thing you have ever done with your clothes on :rofl :rofl :rofl

I was told that I was better going at 11am due to the winds being slighter better for my weight....I have no idea what they meant :rofl

We launched from the 1900m take off area ( the top ) as there is also another launch point at 1800m. My flight lasted only 23 minutes but it was brilliant!!

So if you're a heavier person.....go during the day when the winds are up...otherwise any time of day.
