OK so..we are set for 2 weeks in Mauritius in October (10th/11th October) and looking at the various Tour Operators going from Manchester/Birmingham and maybe London if need be. Looking at hotels in North/North West for about £1800.
My dilemma is the Virgin holidays etc use Air Mauritius and it seems to be the basic flights (MK51 and MK40) and I'm really scared of what I've heard about Air Mauritius (code share AF) and poor seat pitch and IFE.
Anyone flown recently from MAN/BHX with particular tour operators that can offer a view on airlines? I can sort out the hotel preferences out but need help with the flights? I know there are reviews here but are a few years old and clearly different airplanes are used now.
Thanks
Kay
I can highly recommend Air Mauritius, they are one of the best airlines I've flown with. They offer a full scheduled service using their colourful Airbus A340-300's. I'd travel with them tomorrow without hessitation. Depending on the exact flight option you are looking for, some are on a codeshare with Air France. The last time I went to Mauritius (fabulous island by the way!), I went with MK on the outbound and came back with AF. This was by choice as I wanted to fly the A340-300 out and 747-400 back. AF aren't the best on Indian Ocean destinations in my opinion, you'll find my trip reports at the bottom of our What Aircraft? guide (link below). I was glad I got upgraded! Their intra-european flights are fine though. If you let me know your proposed schedle, ie from which airport and via Heathrow or Paris, I'll check to see if it's a codeshare for you. Don't worry about Air Mauritius themselves though, they're a great airline. I travelled with Hayes and Jarvis from MAN to MRU, via CDG. It's a long way, 24 hours from leaving home to getting to the hotel in Mauritius, but worth it. Alternatives to MK/AF are Emirates via Dubia, but you'll pay a little more for that usually.

I've looked into other flight options and althoug flights on the 777 would have been good, cant justify the extra money so will be settling for the standard MK flight from Paris.
We are hoping to book the flight that goes out from Birmingham (bhx) on Sun 10th Oct at 11:55, via Paris and I think it AF to Paris and MK to Mauritius and the same in reverse, which I think by memory is the 747-400. What can we expect from the flight in terms of seat pitch, IFE and food and drink??
Many thanks for your reply and hoping for another one :-)
Mmm....just figured out that this is the code share whereby we get MK51 (747-400) which may be the AF journey that will only be ok if we get upgraded??!! May have to drink lots to sleep through it then!!
You'll probably be on the following flight:
Dep BHX 09:20, Arr CDG 11:50, Cityjet RJ85, AF5133
Dep CDG 16:15, Arr MRU 05:20, Air France 747-400, AF3592 (MK51)
Personally, I'd try and get on the MK flight that leaves 5 minutes after the AF; MK45 on their A340-300. AF's economy cabin on he Indian Ocean 744's are not particularly nice in my opinion. There's no seat back IFE, bearing in mind it's an 11 hour flight and seat pitch is 31". I was upstairs so had lots of luxury compared to the main deck, you'll have seen in my trip report. I wouldn't have liked to have been downstairs. I only opted for the AF flight to ride on the 744, otherwise I'd have gone with MK both legs. MK's A340's have seat back IFE throughout and 32" seat pitch so in my opinion, a better option on what is a pretty long flight.

Thanks for the advice Darren....I went for the later flight on Air Mauritius in the end :-)
Are any flights direct from London to Mauritius?
Mobor One,
Excellent
We are off to Mauritius a week on Sunday and just had our e-tickets through confirming the flights.
We are on the code share AF5135 from Bhx to Paris. What can I expect from that flight? Its only a short hop so not expecting much but any tips or info would be appreciated. Worth loking for an upgrade with our Flyig Blue number?
Will we have to recheck our luggage in at Paris for the ongoing flight to Mauritius or not?
Our mauritius flight is the MK45 on the airbus A340-300 so this flight should be ok for us. Again is it worth looking for an upgrade at all do you think?
Thanks
Kay
Air Mauritius only operate from Heathrow and Paris, so the connecting flight is with Air France (operated on their behald by a CityJet RJ85). Their intra-european services are pretty good, you'll have no problems with the flight to Paris. You'll get a complimentory drinks service and they still may be doing the coissants with chocolate! As you're on a code share, you'll be through checked from BHX to MRU so no need to collect bags in Paris, just transfer yourselves to the terminal and forget about your hold luggage. You can ask about upgrades, but the chances are minimal without paying. I was just lucky. The standard economy seats are pretty good and the crew excellent. Have great flights and I'm sure you'll love Mauritius.

How long is the flight from heathrow to Mauritius, and is it direct? I'm just curious(and jealous!) as my brother is flying there at the end of the week. Don't know what airline he is with.
It depends who he's flying with. If he's flying with Air Mauritius, then it's a non-stop service that takes around 11.5 hours. Other airlines go via their respective hubs that naturally take longer.
