Why not use a card to get euros here from ATMs
Its safer than carrying a lot of cash

But banks at home will charge a currency exchange fee so changing cash is a better option.
Nationwide do not charge me , neither do the Greek banks when I use my card
thanks for that rate update 1.19 not bad . i'am with Lloyds so would be charged wish all banks were like nation wide. probs take cash and get changed there
If you have 5 weeks before travelling you still have time to apply for a Nationwide Flex account. It only takes about 2 weeks for your account to be accepted.
The account does not charge to withdraw from ATM's in Greece.

Just thought I'd add an update about Nationwide Flex Cards.
As from 1st Nov 2010 they will be making a £1 charge for currency withdrawls (other than Sterling) when use use your card ANYWHERE abroad....and they will also take a 2% commission from you as well which will be shown on your account when you get home.
ie) Withdraw £100 worth of Euros and it will cost you £3 now. This is still cheaper than many other Banks but a big blow for all of us who have enjoyed getting great rates and free transactions. I am assuming that the 'best rate' tag they have been using will STILL apply, so not all is lost.
See the nationwide website http://www.nationwide.co.uk and click on flex account, then click 'changes to account', then 'using your card abroad'.
regards, Jim.
