Having been to Benidorm beach recently (last week) and over the past few months, can I say that there ARE fag butts on the beach during the day and I have to spend about 5 minutes clearing them before I can let my son play there with his bucket and spade. Also if you wander down the prom in the direction of McDonalds, you can see the bottles and cans and general rubbish that is left by people on the beach (usually right next to a bin). However, the cleaners and the tractor are there every night, so the mess that the day brings is usually cleared up before the next day starts and they do it all over again.

Agree Lisa. When Linda and I were going on the beach I always managed to find cig ends next to my towel. As a non smoker I find it very off - putting. As a smoker, Linda saves hers then puts them in the bin on leaving the beach. How I wish everyone would do that!

Nice to know that the tractor is out every night clearing up the day's mess, and when I (we) walk on the beach very early in the morning and I (we) don't see any fag butts, that I can now cancel that appointment at the opticians and the lie detector test.

Hi there i go to benidorm 2-3 times a year and the beaches are well groomed but fag ends do end up just buried under the sand and reappear later in the day . This does not happen in the canaries or algarve as the atlantic naturally clears the beaches.

My Sister-in-Law was given a cone shaped receptacle with a lid whilst on the beach (I think) .. you put sand in it and then stick it in the sand.. use it for your fag butts and then just shut the lid and dispose of it later.. I think they're a good idea..
